Speaking about pizza, which one is better, New York or Chicago style pizza? and why do you think it is New York?
It New York style, but just barely. Chicago style is deep-dish and also quite tasty.
It's just messy and sometimes doesn't get properly cooked all the way through.. Sometimes you get toppings that are just hot, not fully baked.
I've only had this a couple times. Not a huge fan.
Should be called "Lazy-man's Bread Lasagna"
Detroit does them rectangular and a little thicker, right? That's the way they did it in the bakeries in Tuscany when I was there. The restaurants all did the round thing because people (tourists) expected it, but I think the rectangular sheet-pan seemed to be the more traditional method where the locals shopped and ate versus where the tourists ended up.
The Detroit style I had was at least 3 inches thick (7.62 cm) and just a saucy, doughy abortion.
If it was more toppings and less sauce, it would just be a Chicago style. Plus, they put sauce on top.
I see it in search results looking much better than any of the offerings I have seen IRL.
Yep. It came about from the auto workers using the rectangular parts trays they'd get from work.
Boomers will never beat the lead-poisoning accusations.
American food is like the English language: we took bits and pieces from the places our ancestors came from, got together over here, mixed it up a bit, learned a bit more from the Asian folks that got here a few thousand years before over the Bering land bridge, and did "fusion" before it was $100/plate in douchy restaurants. Added some twists along the way and came up with some stuff that makes folks in Europe lose their shit when they try it - Texas Red chili for example or Cajun gumbo.
Biscuits & gravy really blew a European friend's mind. Then we had burgers for lunch and chicken-fried steak for dinner.
He said, "I'm so jealous of your food, it's all so good! I would be so fat if I moved here!"
He was from a town a couple hours out of Prague, I would think they had good food?
I can get behind the other stuff, but anchovies are a traditional topping straight from the birthplace of pizza. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you should refuse them to people with more traditional and sophisticated palates. I bet you think "pepperoni" is the best thing on pizza - that plastic crap used over here would be dumped in the trash in Italy. And it's more of a Spanish hard chorizo than any type of Italian charcuterie. I'll eat it, but tend to avoid it if I order just for myself.
I made and delivered the pizza. I didn't own the place!
But, come on man, they didn't add anchovies 400 years ago because of their "refined palate" They did it because it was readily available and cheap.
But, let's not pretend a peasant from medieval Italy would prefer salty, dried minnows over a pepperoni.
If
you like anchovies, that's fine. Put them on pizza if you want, I'm not the pizza-police.
Plus, I do like pepperoni. Greasy and spicy and delicious. Of course the chorizo style stuff is better, but I like that, too.
You must be some kind of high-browed sausage racist!
and yes it's true that Europeans have trouble with spices x), the number of people who find that I spice my dishes too much even though I barely feel the spiciness x:
Don't feel bad about liking spices, there are Americans that would put ketchup and ranch dressing on everything.
Some think pico de gallo is too spicy! Without any chilis in it. (A chip dip with onion, tomato, cilantro, and lime)
Unless I missed it, there's very few official sites.
On the amateur ones, all agree to remove the skin.
As far the green part, half say cook it normally. The other half say, bake the pizza first, add the kiwi, then broil for a little bit.
The fact that even the sites that give the recipe call it "The Kiwi Pizza abomination." or something like that... doesn't inspire confidence.
Fresh, soggy fruit charred on top of pizza doesn't sound any better!

If they call it an abomination, I think I would pass on that.
