If you use torrents, how do you go about it? Raw dog, free VPN or paid VPN? If free, how are you doing the setup to get it to properly work?

I raw dog it. I've been doing it for 20+ years without issue. Piracy isn't a priority for law enforcement where I live. Just take care not to download anything malicious. But that's just anywhere. And windows defender is about all you need.
I use paid vpn to bypass country locked content.
Free vpns are about as useful for protection as a screen door in a sub.
No vpn is truly anonymous. Any agency that wants to locate your activity has the tools and resources to do so.
Even if you use fake emails and fake phones etc, the amount of data your devices record about you and share with different entities online is so vast that it is quite easy to isolate you from any one data dump.

It's not so much the amount of services/platforms. In fact, competition and prices are better with more platforms. It's the way they try to get you to subscribe. Much like video game consoles, instead of competing to offer you the widest selection possible for the best price, with a focus on ease of use and quality of life... They instead focus on exclusive content and drive up the price. Netflix was very successful at first because it had a huge catalog and was accessible. Since every network and their mother want their content to be exclusive, streaming turned into cable.
That's why steam is undefeatable too. Their focus is on improving the user experience while using the storefront and having sales all the time. There is actually a fear among some that the moment Gaben dies, the board will fuck up steam with typical corporate bs.

Are you using torrents as part of your nefarious adventures? Been looking at downloading some different series and that seems to be the way to go, but having trouble getting either "u" or "qbit" to work with the recommended free VPN. Used "u" in the distant past, but now there are two things I no longer do without a digital condom: porn and piracy. I'm also a cheap-ass mofo, so I really don't want to pay for a VPN, but torrent engines seem to have issues with them. I grabbed "hide me" since my normal free VPN doesn't allow p2p, but, even after researching and following every set-up recommendation I could find, I never get them to go past "connecting to peers" or "downloading metadata" (depending on which one I'm using at the time).

Yes, Torrent is my main form of piracy. But as I said, Brazilian, we don't have much troubles with it. Well, one time my torrent was opened with the computer in the university network, and I was called attention, but nothing more.
I use Deluge as my program, and heard bad thing about "u", maybe "qbit" would be better.
So, no VPN, and everything goes smooth. Just have to find a good place to find the files, usually, I get them from TG.
There's not much to it, but I can help answer some questions tomorrow. Now it is really late here.
