People who use them for personal use mostly don't want them because they don't want the tech to fail when they need to actually use the gun for something other than target practice. Police in particular are a lot more likely to be in a situation where they are faced with an adversary with a gun or other weapon, than situations where there is a risk of the gun being taken from them. Granted there are also situations where guns are stolen from police vehicles where the smart capability might come in handy. The law has just created a crab bucket scenario where nobody wants to even put them on the market because it will make everyone else hate them.I always asked me why there wasn't smartguns. For fucks sake, we have so many dumb smart things, like smart toilets and faucets, that you'd think that a object that is made to kill would have some technology improvements.
A police gun that checked for fingerprint or for a close NFC ring/bracelet before shooting or something like that seems that it could have a good ideia.
Some years ago in my country a policemen was arresting a drunk or high guy, don't remember, and said guy picked up the officer gun from his holster and shooted himin the face, killing him instantly.
If you're not in a country that used to be part of the British Empire you probably don't have common law. Other countries took the crazy idea that laws and rules should have to be written down.

In fact I'm in the UK, hence the comment about common law marriage being a myth. There is no such thing recognised in law here and it is a widely held misconception that it does exist. In fact throughout the UK the concept fell out of 'recognition' around the beginning of the 20th century after dwindling in recognition since around the 18th century. Scotland being the exception where the final vestiges of it were removed when the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 was enacted.

That's good, it should be written out of law everywhere. There are some US states that still have it, as well as Canada.
