What ruins a game?

For me, it would be the NTR and futa tags, but those are easy to avoid. A poorly written story is the main reason for me to drop a game
Yeah those first 2 are no download from the start. ADDING something like that later and it wasn't in the tags is pretty much the definition of a dick move.

that is a reason i don't like when the game dev lists their "planned tags" and sites don't just include those as tags

if the developer plans to have cheating, sharing, stealing, futa, trans, or another commonly avoided tag, the site should list that tag

Apart from genre, i would say it is mostly the awful writing or super bad images/animation.

abandoned many games because of it.

When I'm screening a game to decide if I want to give it a try, vague descriptions of the game usually cause me to pass. If the synopsis is nothing more than "MC experiences new things and develops relationships" or something else equally generic, then my attention isn't grabbed to make me want to invest my time in the story.

As far as tags, the ones that get an immediate "NOPE" from me are bestiality, furry, and scat. NTR makes me take a closer look to see exactly what they mean (is MC taking someone else's LI, or is someone else taking MC's LI). For just about anything else, I try to figure out how much of the tags that interest me less actually made it into the game and whether it can be avoided.

Once I'm playing a game, the biggest thing that will ruin it is loss of immersion. If I've downloaded a game, I'm willing to give its story a lot of room to breathe and grow to see if I like it. I find that the most common cause for that is bad translation.

For tags I would say real porn, ntr, futa, scat, bestiality. I am also not a fan of games with a ton of grind. If the story is constantly breaking set rules within the game it ruins the story for me.

Kinetic and boring stories where you don't make choices and win by skipping the game
But "skip to win" is also true for VNs with choices, but without bad endings. Also, if you're trying to win while playing kinetic novels, then youre doing it wrong.

Lots of things... I guess the top three not including kinks would be:

1- No meaningful options
2- Mandatory sex scenes with some characters
3- Automatic sex scenes, no options during sex

Yeah, but there are also games where you have to gain corruption points with the right choices, bad endings add the risk to lose the girl and makes the game more challenging.
Games storyline needs some grip with the player's feelings to be enjoyable and not boring, but some games are focused on mc has sex with everyone and you can barely refuse them to skip scenes with no consequences.

Take as an example. A great story told in one narrative line without choices. It's in my opinion at least a 9/10. It grabs your attention immediately with a solid opening, then progresses to a very good story. It's a kinetic novel, but it's absolutely better that way.

is also great, despite being almost kinetic. The choices are just brief changes, and the story is episodic instead.

The Sakura games ( as an example) is so fucking boring that skipping is basically the point, no choices as well, but that isn't the problem. The problem is that it's fucking boring.

Lastly could be improved with choices and routes, but it's still a great story.

Censorship of games, sandbox. NTR. Captain pullout. Pussy MC who is a pushover and wimp and a simp. Yet somehow every woman just falls on his dick.

Blueball games are up there fairly high in my list of shit that shouldn't even be a thing.

I didn't play neither of them, but I see the point and maybe my opinion is based on boring kinetic novel.

Unskippable minigames.
Right, that's why I love RenPy games where you can edit the source code and skip them.

  • It's already been mentioned but RPGM is an auto skip for me.
  • Giant unrealistic breasts, butts and cocks make my vagina clamp shut.
  • Pay to Win/Games as a Service
  • Walls of text
  • Rubberbanding
  • Unskippable text.

Blueball games are SOOPER NO. That Captain Pullout shit sucks, too - where you don't even get a choice to cum inside - like in The Way Love Goes.

Censored games, futa or gay only games (I don't mind if they are in the game and avoidable or just a very small part), NTR that is a big part of the game, and currently AI artwork (I don't have anything against ai I just haven't seen a game using it that has consistent images across scenes or an appealing art style with it yet)
