The default or something random or something fitting for the setting. When in Rome, name your guy Marcus Julius and all that jazz. I could never stand self-inserting. Don't even do it in mainstream RPGs, which I enjoy and play a lot of.

I use the default name. If there isn't default name, i used to use my own name, until a game asked me to choose a surname. If i have to think of a surname, why not to think also of a name?
And so from that day i'm Carl Bigfoot

Is it a name or a wishlist?

I think it was a default name on an early game I played and I've just kept using it because it didn't offend me or grate so much that it brought me out of the story.

If the game has a default i stick with that, if it requires me to enter a name i use Bob because its short, simple and easy. I also rarely care about the actual name of the MC

the only problem to name your MC is that sometimes the name you choose doesnt match the vibe of names or surname of your in-game family, or the setting you live in for example
