Yeah, it's crazy how fast storage has grown, a few TBs feels normal now, and GBs are nothing. I could see PB drives happening eventually, but for everyday PCs, that's probably still a decade or more away. Unless you're hoarding 8K video or training AI models at home 😅
Ever heard of DNA Storage the future of storage will be interesting. Though I still wish CDs would spin fast enough for modern games.

I can see a 1 Petabyte HD not too far in the future as games, etc get bigger. Not to mention OS and such needing more space. I read something a bit back where in the 80s someone said there was no way 1 MEGAbyte of storage would ever be needed. Sometimes the disk cleanup function now removes over 100 Mb of waste.

DNA storage is one of the most fascinating and promising technologies for ultra dense, long term data storage, but right now, DNA storage is best suited for cold storage, like archiving massive datasets

Yeah, storage needs are definitely growing, but there are still some physical limits before we get petabyte drives in everyday PCs, stuff like heat, power use and magnetic interference between layers, plus, there’s a limit to how densely data can be packed on a physical disk before error rates and reliability become a huge problem

But hey, new tech could always come out before that :D

I got a NAS with 24 TB last year and half of the space is already in use. Time for new tech :D

That sure is a lot of porn you got there... :p

Ehh, assume it's movies, series and maybe games?
But damn, wouldn't mind that much space here.

Yeah, having to install entire games on consoles starting in the ps4 generation was bs.
I originally leaned toward physical as much as possible, but these days, I pretty much only get physical games for my switch since it's a cartridge and it won't take up console storage.
Otherwise I'm basically all digital unless there's a really good physical sale, since 1. It takes up the same amount of space anyway, 2. Physical CDs are useless for preservation now that every game gets day 1 patches, DLC, and the goty edition often requires downloads anyway, and 3. Digital sales are more frequent and usually better anyway.
And ever since the Steam Deck came out I've been getting most of my games on Steam for comfort, and most of the games I play still work fine to this day, like Romancing Saga 2 or Digimon. Even BG3 ran mostly fine on it, and they just released a new patch to optimize further on the Deck. I still haven't bought a PS5 this gen since the only exclusive to catch my eye has been Astro Bot, and we know Death Stranding 2 is coming to PC eventually. I did buy a high-end PC for the more modern stuff, and my only regret so far has been Monster Hunter Wilds since it runs like absolute garbage.
We've all been predicting the end of Gamestop for years now, but I am getting more and more amazed that they can stay open when any average digital sale absolutely shits on their used game prices, and physical media is becoming a basic installation disc that isn't even complete.

You know, I'm exceptionally well. Had a great day yesterday and today is shaping up nicely. I really hope you're doing the same or better.

Ok just saying probably not the best time to discuss DNA storage right after the post of a large breasted redhead even talking about PC's I wasn't thinking anything about storing anything in a PC LMAO.

Im pretty much all digital too just easier. Not sure if its for all games but GOG store front usually give you a offline download to another decent platform to collect games on plus there doing a good job at Game preservation along with a website called Abandonware. I also burned a bunch of ps2 games 8-10 times the burn is good and plays just fine modding a older console and just keeping a bunch of games a good way to hold on to them most are pretty simple to from ps3 console and back.

Hope everyone is having a good day! it was raining today, alot .. like wet rain, not like dry rain.. i dont even know what dry rain is.. maybe its not even rain .. Anyways, i had hotdogs for dinner.
