How long is too long for a game to have an update...?

I think it all depends on the game, the content being released, and the transparency of the development. Smaller dev teams deserve some grace.

I agree that it sucks when you don't see an update after months and you kin of forget about the game, but if the dev is being transparent about the game status, at least it helps keep you remembering. I just hope that you don't always have to restart.

If an update takes longer than 3 months then I lose interest. Especially when the update finally comes out and there's barely anything in it, which happens a lot.

depends on the game and content but it shouldn't be more than 6 months imo

3 months. Or at least the dev must say something about the progress. If I'm not mistaken Milfy City was almost abandoned because no update from the dev for like a year?

What Taffy Tales is doing and redoing the whole game again from scratch

6 months is a breakpoint for me, even if it has a lot of content it´s horrible to not remember anything
On this, I wholeheartedly agree. If the average (and I'm not sure of the data regarding this) amount of time for an update/release is let's say 6 months, then that should be the maximum
limit between updates/releases. If a Dev doesn't post regular updates with regards to their product, then they should be tagged as abandoned and moved to a category appropriately
named "Abandoned" in both GAMES and GAMES+ categories. This should facilitate the developers to putting a fire under their feet to get progress moving along or at the very least
provide some sort of "news update" on their projects.
It's has been a lot recently that you come in, look into the GAMES library and you see dozens of projects that have the Abandoned tag or ONHOLD tags. I feel that only Active/Completed
titles should be listed under these libraries and I'm pretty sure there are a lot who would agree.
Anyway, I'm off the soapbox now. Thanks.

Depends on the game. For a well written VN with great graphics and a lot of material in each release, it can take a little longer, especially if the developer is telling people what's going on and if they have carried through in the past. For poorly written VNs that are only about the lewd scenes and don't give more than a half hour of play each update, six weeks is probably long enough to wait.

I expect more frequent updates from the guys raking in the patreon money than I do a hobbyist/someone who can't quit their day job yet.

A few months is no problem but if it takes six moths or a year for one update the developer is not doing his job properly.

Also what grinds my gears is a game that gets one or two updates a year with barely ten minutes of new content.

Depends on how much money it's making on crowdfunding, I suppose. Have an ongoing bet on which game between Summertime Saga and Star Citizen will see version 1.0 first

I am a bleach and berserk fan. I'll wait years if I have to. It's just really nice when I don't have to.

OH, I so agree with that sentiment. It's like the game "Bad Memories". Months, if not almost a year and then only 5 minutes of material to read/play. It's just ridiculous. If it's going to be that short, put out an announcement that you, the Dev, are continuing to work on it until you have "something" worthy of publishing. I totally understand developers wanting to make money from their product, but come one, soaking patrons for months and not putting out a product is just robbery. I have contributed to many novels like those produced by Moodbox, mainly because
I know that the product will be out every 2 weeks like clockwork, so I don't have a problem contributing to the creator, but not like a lot of these have been done recently. Just sayin'.

No longer than 4 months.
If you're putting out three updates a year then the game is never getting completed. Unless you're REALLY packing it in each update.
