Did you ever cry while playing AVNs?

Leap of Faith made me cry so darn much. A lot of it resonated with me and what i was going through in those days. It will forever be the best one story wise for me. Cece rhymes with Coffee!

Turned on - Very Much
Cry - No
Sad - Yes

I don't think so, but those moments still left me speechless sometimes (in a good way)

No, I don't like emotional stories since I don't wanna be sad while I'm playing these games. In the last 2-3 years I tend to avoid emotional/sad media in general since I'm prone to depression and bad habits caused by it.

Yes Leap of Faith when you get to the dev's message. And recently with The Missing Part

Didn't cry, but the True Ending of Once In A Lifetime almost got me, mostly due to the song. Just hit me in the right way on a bad day.

The only time I cried was with Kanon and Clannad, after that I stop playing games that make me feel sad.

I got pretty fucked up with Acting Lessons. The best friend talking about his cancer diagnosis got to me.

No, but one actually made me feel some anxiety over a character I had grown to like. After developing a bond in the game, that bond was threatened and the writer did a good job.

As a dev of a game now in alpha, each character has an inspiration (movies, stories, poetry, and real people) and is more than just an archetype. But, no, I don't really get attached to them per se. Without giving too much away, I do feel trepidation at events that will occur to particular character(s) and what impact that may have on players/readers. I don't want to manipulate player too much, but it's required to some extent to get across story concepts. Also, the more you can make people feel the more they will want to consume your products. It's a balancing act. I think being a Dungeon Master for 20+ years has instilled in me a separation between reality and fantasy. I do have several favorite characters though, but would not hesitate in killing or harming them if it made a story better. GRR Martin taught me that :)
Do you feel that after working on games on your own that you have a different relationship with games, at least adult games, than you did before?

Yeah, same here. I had that with Harem Hotel

Yeah, quite a bit. The number one thing I'll notice are the assets (models, clothing, scenes, etc). It kinda takes me out of the game sometimes when I see commonly used ones (free stuff). I try to alter my models so they aren't easily recognizable. The second is envy/wonder. Like how did they accomplish that code, animation or CGI? Third, is dialogue. I can tell when it's a translation or just poor English.

Conversely, I have a lot of respect for dev's when they do something right. Not a lot of them are good at all elements: camera work, scene development, atmosphere, dialogue, plot, structure, etc... Ever see the credits after a movie? Imagine you're doing everything. I'm OK at Python, I took filmography & creative writing in college as electives and won a writing award for non-fiction. And I don't even come close to the talent some of these people have. I'm releasing a demo by the end of September to see if people are interested. It takes A LOT of work and even with my 4080 Super it still takes a while to render.

For players:
I remember that just two games made me cry. Active lesson and Leap of faith. How about you? Did a game manage to make you cry and which one? (Not because it is so bad )

For developers:
Do you get emotionally attached to your characters? Did you cry while writing the dialogues? Because I never thought that will happen but I cried three times already while writing the dialogues for my game and I can't be the only one.

Acting Lessons yep, either cried or wanted to cry or felt like part of me died. I'm scared to try Leap of Faith, but I have it downloaded.:ROFLMAO:

Every time I reach the end of the Eternum update with the Caribdis cliffhangers

Katawa Shojo

That's one touching ass game. Great characters. More a emotional game with like one sex scene each but still made me tear up
