For players:
I remember that just two games made me cry. Active lesson and Leap of faith. How about you? Did a game manage to make you cry and which one? (Not because it is so bad )

For developers:
Do you get emotionally attached to your characters? Did you cry while writing the dialogues? Because I never thought that will happen but I cried three times already while writing the dialogues for my game and I can't be the only one.

No, but one actually made me feel some anxiety over a character I had grown to like. After developing a bond in the game, that bond was threatened and the writer did a good job.

As a dev of a game now in alpha, each character has an inspiration (movies, stories, poetry, and real people) and is more than just an archetype. But, no, I don't really get attached to them per se. Without giving too much away, I do feel trepidation at events that will occur to particular character(s) and what impact that may have on players/readers. I don't want to manipulate player too much, but it's required to some extent to get across story concepts. Also, the more you can make people feel the more they will want to consume your products. It's a balancing act. I think being a Dungeon Master for 20+ years has instilled in me a separation between reality and fantasy. I do have several favorite characters though, but would not hesitate in killing or harming them if it made a story better. GRR Martin taught me that :)

i think the only two that have made me tear up was my first VN that introduced me which was Double Homework and the second would be ashleys story from Harem Hotel

Sure. If the game is well written and the characters are believable.

My Bully is My Lover for example.

I enjoyed acting lessons, good story, good characters and definitely prefer it that way. But I don't get invested quite enough to bring on the tears.

Leap of Faith man... I still can't hear that 'Auld Lang Syne' to this day without remembering.

And yes to both questions...

I can't imagine writing if I couldn't get attached to my characters. Would just be boring and they'd feel so lifeless to me.

I actually had to rewrite parts of EP2 of my game because the direction I was taking it was too difficult for me. I'm all kinds of Autistic which came with a big dose of stupidly strong emotions though so I figured that was just a me thing. Great for writing those romance scenes (if you like mushiness), but not so good for writing other kinds of things.

Also... love the render!

Just like you, I’ve cried with the Cece story in Leap of Faith. But I guess it depends on your state of mind at the moment of playing and how invested you are in the characters and their stories.

Oh, that's true, Harem Hotel's Ashley's story was sad AF. Came for boobies, stayed for feels

Well, I did cried on Fetish Locator, Summer's Gone...

And especially Leap of Faith. (IYKMPYK)

i remember getting wet eyes 2 times in AVN's.
- while reading the letter in radiant
- while MC tells about how he feels at his birthdays in being a dik

As with many others, Leap of Faith did it for me. When the dev dropped the bomb right after that moment in the story, really struck home with me.

Grisaia no Kajitsu (Amane's good ending), I Love Daddy (eternal sleep ending), Devil Girl, Monmusu Quest (Alice fight, also not really a VN), Youmaen (also not a VN, but it is easy to get attached to girls).

Can't say I've ever cried at a AVN. Had moments where it's been like a gut punch. Only game I think I've cried at was the end of tell tales walking dead season 1. That ruined me 😔
