If that is the case I'll probably tell my player to git good or lower the difficulty because so far this playthrough sucks.

I think overall in my life the difficulty was set on the hardest possible level with lower (by a lot) than normal stats on everything but intelligence.

I'd think that mimics would be connoisseurs of deception... and with so many observers, that check would seem to be quite difficult. But I ain't played 5e yet...
I last played 3.5 a coule years back, and still miss some of the features of 2e...

That would be a good twist if I wanted to make it more than a one shot.

They get to the room, mimics come alive but instead of eating them they toss in a diamond worth 1000 gold (or what ever the cost was)

Option 1: cleric casts the spell and resurrects the wizard.

Option 2: Rouge pockets the diamond and ties ropes to the wizard and makes a performance check to turn him into a marionette while the bard makes a deception check to throw his voice so it sounds like the wizard is talking.

Option 3: Rogue pockets diamond, Bard starts Performance checks and Prestidigitation to pretend he's a Cleric casting the mother of all resurrection spells, Wizard quietly prepares Mass Teleport.

And of course lets a little slip of paper fall from his sleeve...

Or make a homebrew class called Rouge... and have one of them go rogue
