It is, and it's the reason I love it. It's like a cyberpunk city without the negative connotations and corporations.

But also no cool futuristic stuff... At least give a holophone or smth!

Can anyone recommend a good non cringe anime? I have been trying to get into anime for some time, but I guess a big part of it are weird oversxualized scenes (I know, weird coming from someone on a forum such as this), very awkward dialogue or shouting your every move while in a fight... The other day I was trying to watch Gate, as the prospect of modern vs medieval/fantasy military was alluring to me, but I turned it off after about 5 minutes, becuase it was just so insanely cringey with the main character's intro monologues....

Oddtaxi or Violet Evergarden would be my suggestion. Oddtaxi is sharp, weird in the best way, and way smarter than it first seems - no cringe, just tight storytelling. Violet Evergarden is pure emotional weight wrapped in stunning animation, and it never feels try-hard or overdone.
