I actually loved the new games too (1+2, didn't play 3 yet), they catch the spirit and the humor of the old one quite nicely

For retro games there are a few i know and think are good: (yeah some are a few years older, but not anywhere as old as to count as something to bring back as retro themself)

- sidescroller-survival-dungeon/cave-explorer
- like Terraria, just sci-fi
(Didn't play much Terraria so it could be the same as Starbound in that regard, but the latter gets quite repetetive later and difficulty is a tad annoying high, so i am not the biggest fan, but that might be just me being shite at it)
If anyone is into them Fabledom was a good one.
