Same here. When you are young, you think of cool people, writers, movie directors, artists... then the day arrives, when you realise what is truly important in life. And by then, is usually too late.

If you could sit and have a drink with anyone (alive or passed on) who would it be and why?

Damn Kaity, this is a hard one. I was a history student and there are so many people I would just want to talk to, learn why they did what they did.

Grigori Rasputin would have been a wild person to have a drink with. Knowing his reputation it would have been A LOT of drinks though.

Aleister Crowley would also have been a very interesting person to talk to. Along similar lines I'd love to have a drink with Gerald Gardner.

But I have to agree with others. My uncles, one passed a couple years back and the other when I was very young. They also didn't live nearby so we didn't get a lot of time to be together.

Well, aside from the wonderful people I have met here, I'd have to say my great-grandfather.

Never met the man, he was long gone by the time I was born but he fought during WW2.

He was born in Calabria, Italy. Fought on what most will call the wrong side of the war, took a German girl as his wife and fled to the US.

I would have liked to meet them both, but especially him. He's the catalyst for nearly everything my family is, at least on my father's side, and knowing so little about him has always frustrated me.

Imagining sitting at a bar with him, enjoying a few drinks and chatting in Italian is a warm thought, Kitten. Thank you.

But my dad, one last drink of anything, just to tell him, I'm fine, and I of course still miss him.

And I know, I mention my dad alot in these, but he was kinda my idol, and I strive as much as possible to be like he was.

He's pretty well known for surviving several execution/assassination attempts making some people believe he actually did have magic powers. And he's the villain of the animated movie Anastasia. I'm surprised you haven't seen it if you're old enough to have watched Animaniacs.

If you are even half as wonderful as he was, I'd say you're more than living up to his memory, Slum.

I know I'm not the only one here that sees how good a person you clearly are.

Based solely on what I've seen, he'd have to be an angel to live up to the precedent you set and no, I am not exaggerating.

Arguably one of the better non-Disney Animated movies in the 90's, and Anastasia is pretty much considered a Disney Princess, since they acquired 20th Century Fox. Plus, the voice cast and songs are excellent, especially the Liz Calloway stuff and the ending song by Donna Lewis and Richard Marx. I mentioned before that I love Don Bluth movies, it's ranked in my Top 3 of his films, might even be Number 1.

He had a very close relationship with the Tzar and Tzarina related to their only son, Alexei. Alexei was a hemophiliac (extremely dangerous at the time) and the Tzar and Tzarina believed in Raputin's ability to heal and keep safe their son. There are suggestions that the relationship to the Tzarina was sexual as well. We was a drunkard, a womanizer, and accused several times of rape if I recall correctly. He was despised by the Orthodox Church, many members of the nobility, and well...a lot of people.

He is an integral part of the story of the fall of Romanov dynasty as the royal family kept their son's illness a secret. So no one outside the family understood why they were associating with a peasant faith healer and a heretic if you listened to the church.

I honestly can't even start to explain all the intricacies of what was going on at the time. The whole story of the fall of the Romanovs is a sad but fascinating tale. Kind of the perfect storm of political issues, personalities, modernization, and the outbreak of the First World War. There are people who are far more well informed about this than me and likely have several corrections. If it interests you I'd suggest reading it or finding a good documentary.
