Fahrenheit, and English units in general, work better for day to day life. Metric works better for science mostly because it uses decimal units that are easier to translate across scales. Most countries that use metric had to be forced into it by laws rather than naturally adopting the system. Meanwhile the US tried encouraging a transition to metric without legal force but were mostly unsuccessful.

There was very strong resistance. When they put up distance signs in metric, the signs got shot to pieces. Politicians that insisted on it got voted out.
