Unpopular opinion: If I have to play through 60min of your game to even get a hint of sexual content the game is trash

Do you prefer a slow build-up, or do you agree that games should kick things off faster?

I like a bit of a slow burn. If you just want them to whip it out in the first scene then there are video websites for that 5mins of content.
That isn't interactive like a game. Reason I don't like Kinetic Novels. It's like watching porn but with reading and bad graphics.

I don't need a porn game to jump right into the action, but the action better make up for the long ass wait.

It depends on the type of game, some are obviously more story focused and are better with a slow burn but personally i don't think there is any harm in showing the MC's fantasy/future just to get the ball rolling near the start to show where the game is leading.

I do like a slow build up for getting in tune with the characters, but I do agree that it taking too long to see something happen is annoying

I don't even know what to say... 60 min to get to anything... even a nipslip, like... how... no, rather... why would you make a game like that? Who hurt you?
That would be my question to the devs.

Personally, I would skip... skip... and then skip to get past the 60min intro, but if you're going to give me another 60 min until the next scene, I will just question... seriously, why this game is in the porn games category.

Though, I don't recall having ever seen such an extreme case, where even skipping or fast forwarding was missing. It would be intriguing but at the same curious as to with what they filled all that gaming time. If the game's good from a gameplay perspective, I might just play it as a regular game with a bit of spice on the side. I mean, it took a while to reach the steamy Mass Effect scenes, but those were not the focus, just a controversial flavor.

A balance is what I look for, a little background for buildup then a scene followed by some story. If it's a story with updates then each update should have 2-3 scenes after the prologue that is.

With good gameplay, then I don't mind.

If it's just 60 min of me clicking my left mouse button, then yes... just give me the porn already (I'm looking at you kinetic novel😤)

I like having to work for it a little. But yeah there has to be hints of it here and there to make it worth the work.

While I agree with the op. There needs to be a nice mix of story and sex 50/50 or 65/35. I also can't stand when a dev puts in a sex dream to fill in the sex quote for their game its lazy. I take nothing that a character dreams as cannon to the story unless it moves the plot forward aka a vision.

I agree for the most part. In my games I always get to the sex quick. With most, if not all games having multiple LI's, there's no reason the MC shouldn't be banging one of them early on to whet the player's appetite. You can actually do both things (fast start + slow burn) if you balance your characters correctly. Just as a general example: an incest game with three love interests (two sisters and mom.) Have one of the sisters into her brother right off the bat and wanting to jump his bones. Maybe the second sister will take more work, while breaking mom down will take the longest amount of time.

Very much agreed. It doesn't even have to be a main character, the slutty side chick on the beginning of the game does wonders to keep the player interested. I do like a game with a good story but let's be honest, for most of us if we're booting up a porn game then we are looking for at least some amount of porn.

Yup. these games have a reason and its not to read all day long

if the game is too slow, then I'll simply fast forward as much as possible. Not every game has a writing good enough to be worth going through.

I disagree. Really good games with compelling and hot stories with good, slow buildup are the best. However, most players here are monkey-brained. They want a good wank right here, right now. So those games don't get that much popularity and the good devs are incentivized to make games with quick action.

I'm not against slow burns per se but if you have to read through tons of story for an hour without any sexual content then maybe it is not a porn game in the first place.

Yeah I guess it's about a balance. I like a bit of tease early to show you what your time is heading to before the slowburn "farming". Off the top of my head, I like Sunset Fairies, but I remember it went for a long time with setup and nothing happening. Then suddenly he begins destroying those poor souless gingers. 0-100!

Totally depends on my mood and such. Also what the goal of the vn is, like if it's trying to tell a story first adult story, then I would understand if there isn't anything for a little. Honestly why reading comments is a helpful thing, gives me an idea of what kind of vn it'll be before I download it. Having correct expectations ahead of time is a big part of it

Better be a really good story if that's the case. Also the sex scenes better go balls to the wall.

If it's a good story I can hold out for awhile, but for most games yeah, I agree. There needs to be some sort of pay off early on.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good story and world-building, but when a game spends hours on tutorials, exposition, or slow setups, it can be frustrating.

Personally, I think games should:
  • Jump into the "action" within the first 10–15 minutes. (after that can slow down again but theres just so much out there nowadays that you need to distinguish if its worth your time)
  • Introduce mechanics naturally as you play, rather than overwhelming players with long tutorials.
It’s fine to have a rich story or deep mechanics, but hooking players early is so important. Some of my favorite games grab you right away and keep you invested without making you sit through hours of setup.
What’s your take on this? Do you prefer a slow build-up, or do you agree that games should kick things off faster? I’d love to hear your thoughts and examples of games that do this well (or not so well).
this reads as: you shouldn't get a girlfriend, you should only hire prostitutes.

I for one don't mind a slow burn. But maybe with hints of something more to come. But no need to get down to business too soon. It can make the moment more enjoyable in the gameplay if it is not a common occurnece, but maybe rather something that take time to get to.
