Yeah that's about what mine looked like in elementary school. Was glad to get to middle and high school where you had the standard school lunch or you could get other things that cost more. My high school even had a café that the culinary arts students cooked in.

Now if we're talking school food, here at the time, don't know if it's different now, we had to pack our own lunch, so most days I didn't eat anythingm until I got home again.

I've never heard of student cooking their own food. In what country did you go to school in?

Don't think they are talking about cooking their own at school, but maybe some kinda "chef" did it for all the people there.

Well for broke families like mine was we had schools lunches for dirt cheap. People could bring their own lunches. I would here and there. But yeah mainly in high school i didn't eat lunch. Hasn't changed much to present day. I bring a lunch box to work everyday but it's filled with energy drinks and other drinks. I rarely eat until I get home.

No the culinary students cooked for other students during lunch. It was part of their culinary class. They would rotate. Some would cook others were servers or the host/esses

Sounds like a decent way to get some work-like experience and get free labor so you need less cafeteria workers

School lunches when/where I went were disgusting. Always packed lunch. When a garbage truck came we'd ask amongst ourselves if they were making a pickup or a delivery.

Had to many of them as a kid, and then there are these potatoes in water, with got served at the cafeteria, where I took my education.

And they just ruined what little I liked about them.

Are those pickled potatoes? I could see why you don't like them if that is what you had to eat a bunch of. Not sure if that is a difference of cultures cause we were only given fries or mashed in school here.

I think I'm long overdue to tell a classy joke...
Here goes:

Spoiler: ~start here~

There's a crazy old lady in a nursing home. She goes up to the receptionist and tears open her robe, revealing her naked body. She yells, "SUPERPUSSY!" at the top of her lungs and walks away.

Spoiler: ~then what?~

Next the old lady goes into the rec room where other residents are basket-weaving, watching TV and reading... Again, the old lady tears open her robe and screams, "SUPERPUSSY!" at the top of her lungs and walks out of the room.

Spoiler: ~OK, now we get to the cafeteria~

Now the old lady goes into the cafeteria where a new resident is sitting by himself at a table. She rushes over to him, tears open her robe and yells, "SUPERPUSSY!" The new guy looks her up and down for a minute then says, "I'll have the soup."

Ok -- a late start to the day -- I blame it on my dogs who for some unknown reason let me sleep late today -- I think they are planning something ....... whatever -- happy Friday all -- time to get casual - drink some coffee and backread all of -- 4 pages -- sigh Well - Good morn --- errrr -- afternoon all!

Yep - it's kinda like sports - no matter how good you are - there is always someone stronger , faster and bigger than you. I was once an all star in my chosen sport, all conference and all that - so I got to the next level and EVERYONE had credentials just as good or better than mine -- got my ass kicked for a while.

Back when I was in school, the school cafeteria food was quite awful. I was one who always packed a lunch. When a garbage truck would arrive outside the cafeteria (whether at lunch, study hall, etc) we would ask each other if they were making a pickup or a delivery.
