HTML games with good characters and sandbox. Not DAZ renders. Not RenPy. Not RPG Maker

I don't know if there is a word for this, so I am looking.

The games I like the most have some sandbox. You have good story options and good characters, and you can do other things like add NPCs (maybe randomly generated) to your management or home.

I don't like most game graphics. I would rather read text, and I don't remember ever liking something made with DAZ. 2D graphics from Stable Diffusion can be good.

RPG Maker games are sometimes good but they take longer to skip through if they drag on or are supposed to be hard.

I don't care about how hard the game is meant to be because I will cheat anyway if I get bored.

What name is there for this kind of game? Can anyone recommend some?

Masters of Raana is one I have liked enough after I cheated it a lot. It has characters and quests that aren't just boring.

Apocalyptic World is less character and more about events and management.

Both are easy to modify to add or change the game itself. That is also a nice thing about HTML games.

As someone recommended me in another thread: Free Cities pregmod

You can have some renders but it's mostly mostly text

Edit: it's also more a game of management/events

Free Cities Origins (probably the most similar here to Masters of Raana)

College Daze and Power of Will (latter has some country management, former is more about picking which powers to strengthen; either way, it's more via decisions than an interface)

Back to Freedom (not that much management going on, more relationship-focused)

Gateway (at least I think, haven't played much of it)

I forgot but there's also Degrees of Lewdity that is sandbox.
But it's not about management, you create a char and play with it. However you can manage a lot of options about the world.
There are some 2D pixels renders and there are characters (named that you can date and random).

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I already modded Free Cities myself. :)

Thanks! I did try Gateway before. Not nearly as good as MoR or AW, but definitely the kind of vibe I was thinking of

The others seem the same as Gateway. Right kind of format. Hard to find good text though. And I wish more games let you put your own images in because, preferences

DoL looks like it could be more interesting. I give higher expectations to a game that doesn't rely on graphics. Thanks!

Best html game I've played by far would be Course Of Temptation. It's still in early development, but it has more content than most of the finished html games I've found. It also strikes a really hard to hit balance between the amount of content it has and the complexity of the world around it. There's no images unfortunately (and given the banner art that's used for the project, I'd say that probably works in the game's favor because the game's mascot girl is ugly as sin) but if you're down for a fully narrative experience, you're gonna be hard-pressed to find better.

Just started poking around in it. It doesn't seem to punish using cheats or save edits, it explains all of the (many!) options very well, and even explains why the default settings might be preferred. I am impressed.

And yeah the banner girl is ugly. I would have to make an image remover if it had images!
