If you want, you can also edit your head & create more hair and have an easier image to turn into an avatar.
This can be done by making open space in an image:
You must be registered to see attachments
Then you go to

or a similar website (Open AI Art gives you 20 free credits on registering - enough for 5 batches of 4 pictures each but no more) and use inline painting to mark the area above the head, and use a prompt like "Add missing hair" and other descriptors of what you want done.This can help you have the parts added to the image that don't originally exist.

My original head is from an online artwork that does not have a top, instead, the hair is cut off:
Using the above mentioned Open AI website and the free credits, I managed to use the (General) Painting style to have the AI fill out the missing parts:
Giving me a full avatar head.
It's worth noting that things didn't go well for me, so I ultimately had a lot of background image distortion and had to manually, with an eraser, in adobe photoshop, cut the image out over 30 min or so. So...things might not be ideal. But that's a way you can fill out missing parts of your Avatar to have something that's easier to use on gifs.
