I also thought that might be the case at first, but there are other guys in the game and they don't have points variables. Each of the (presumed) love interests have a name_p and a name_p_t (which seems to be for counting the possible total points) variable. MC's best friend Khalil, for instance, doesn't have those points variables. So I'm guessing Charlie is a woman.

It could easily be a prelude to cuckold/swinging.

As for sandbox mode I feel that might detract from the story maybe(unless it's just for slight exploration / diverging paths)
Also will there be future LI / update on future tags for the game as the game gets further development?

Nothing against games that are unabashedly straight-to-the-point fap material, but some of my personal favs just so happen to be of the slow-burn-ish sweet romance variety where the tease is the journey to a greater long-term payoff. Hillside is one that comes to mind, Summer's Gone is another. I reckon this game has the potential to be a top echelon game, though it's still early days. The key for these types of games is getting us to want to spend time with these characters, then if and when you do get to the hot scenes, that's icing on the cake.

While we're all waiting for the next installment of this game, I'd like to recommend checking out Siren Song by Jonesy. It has elements of this game, also somewhat reminiscent of Melody (a classic by Mr Dots), and has an art style a bit similar to that of A Petal Among Thorns. Just one chapter so far, but it's quite a substantial introduction and well-written in my book. Well worth checking out.

Last update on progress by the dev was Feb 15:

The game credits promise monthly updates, but so far it's been more like 2-2.5 months between installments.
