Not like that, no. I am probably a bit more traditional (or boring some might say), so it's basically always either neat, on the rocks or sometimes as a nice Cuba Libre.
A friend of mine introduced it to me. He'd been in the merchant navy for years and had learnt it in Santiago de Cuba
Try it once, it's refreshing and not at all like a tequila shot.

But to be honest, I haven't bought any new whiskys for at least 5 years now, not since I started getting into good quality rum instead. It can be just as complex and varied and interesting as whisky. It's so much more than just plain old Bacardi or Captain Morgan. I even managed to convince a few of my mates, who used to be even more into whisky than I was, and we all basically only drink rum now.
HEATHEN!! How can you say that Captain Morgan and Bacardi are NOT the BEST ever? :) Honestly though, I have trouble with Rums as they tend to have Coconut flavors that I can NOT deal with (just like the rubber flavor of Isla and other peated Whisk(e)y. I'll stick with the flavors of Whisk(e)y, as I can enjoy most of them.

Just a thought.

Kilbeggan Irish whiskey
Rough Rider bourbon
High West Double Rye

Each served depending on how I'm feeling. Though I tend to prefer on the rocks, and waiting a little while which I guess equates to chilled with a splash of water.

At a professional event I was at, the had a meet and greet with a master distiller who made us do a blind taste test. We were presented with 4 small samples, rocks, neat, splash of water, and chilled but not diluted. After we tried each and ranked our favs, the secret was revealed that all 4 were the same whiskey, and the drastic changes in flavor profile was only the serving method.

So, my plans on this weekend are to get some fucking rest (those work shifts are really life-draining) and to buy some goodies - Tomintoul Peated and another one, I haven't decided yet, but I want it smooth and rich. Would post my tests of taste later (if anyone is interested at all) :)

I do like a single malt. I collected and enjoyed them for years. Rarely anything particularly fancy (though I've definitely tried that as well), mostly just decent quality stuff. My personal favourite, which is also very reasonably priced, is just a Talisker 10 Year Old - always recommended. As for something more "awful", let's just say I find Laphroaig to be quite an experience and not necessarily enjoyable.

I tend to agree with you, since the last time I've drank Laphroaig it felt good but not as good as Connemara. Wanna taste some Jura Superstition or Prophesy to compare.

Love a good whisky / whiskey. Bourbons are my favourite but enjoy a Scotch too. Top shelf, low shelf, I've never had a whisky I couldn't drink. Though Buffalo Trace is what I tend to grab when I don't want to put much thought into a purchase

"Neat" subject. ;)

Well aged and deep bronze for me.

Whiskey is one of the best alcoholic drinks I love the smoky and peaty whiskeys of Islay. Especially
laphroaig

Been a bit since I've had that one, but it's pretty nice. I have found that my tastes, though, have a preference for 100% rye - Bulleit does one that's just nice to sit around drinking and isn't too hard on the wallet.

So, my plans have changed and I ended up with Barclays Royalist 12y Blended. Pretty good whisk(e)y, tho lacks any definitive taste, nothing special.

I've only had whiskey once and I didn't really like or dislike it.

Hey, guys! Got my hands on some Loch Lomond Single Grain Coffey Still Scotch. Cool bottle design. Flavour is far better than Teeling Single Grain, that's for sure. Can't wait to taste it.

For an everyday (common) drink you can't go wrong with Bulleit Bourbon.

I don't know if such thread is allowed here, nevertheless my questions to you, fellow lewdcornerers, are:
- do you like whisk(e)y/bourbon or not?
- what brend would you 100% advise?
- what brend is kinda average or meh?
- what brend is awful/not to your taste?

As for me, I'm a whisk(e)y fan for about 2 or 2.5 years. Bourbon is not my kind of lovely drink, gonna pass.
My favorites are: Bushmills (Original and Blackbush), Dewars (White Label and Port Cask), Auchentoshan American Oak (my favorite so far), Glen Moray, Glenallachie 12y, The Irishman, Connemara Peated, Glengrants Arboralis and Aberlour 12y.
The "meh" are Johnie Walker, Glenmorangie (just don't appeal to me, average at most).
The worst I've drinked not so long ago was Teeling Single Grain, matured in Cabernet Saugvignon casks - it is so disgusting and chemical-perfumery, that I could swallow it only with Cola.
i used to be a former alcoholic.

Back when I could drink, the only whiskey I regularly drank was Crown Royal.

I will say, was never a fan of Jack Daniel's.

And unfortunately, I never got to try other whiskeys as I got older.
have you tried Gentleman Jack. Same bourbon feel but .. much much smoother

oh yes!! I am a single malt lover too. Glenfiddich

only beer
sorry dude .. but i prefer a nice whisky. I did enjoy some of the craft beers

For myself I don't understand the fascination with 'Single Malt'. I mean ALL Whisk(e)y with the exception of 'Single Barrel' is Blended. For myself I enjoy different 'Finishes'. As I have said Angel's Envy is a VERY nice 'Finished' Bourbon. MacAllen is nice for Scotch (though perhaps over hyped). I am thinking of trying some Dalmore this summer as it looks interesting as well.

"The best whisk(e)y is the Whisk(e)y you like to drink served the way you like to drink it". :)

Just a thought.

P.S. For those that don't know about 'Single Malt', it means that the Whisk(e)y was made and bottled with malted grain at one distillery. SINGLE = single Distillery. MALT = Malted Grain (frequently Barley). Because of this ANY release that is not from a single BARREL is a BLEND from one or more distilleries.

P.P.S. If people are interested in good reviews (and a possible cult) check out the YT channel 'Whisk(e)y Vault. I recommend starting with the EARLY videos, the format has changed for LEGAL reasons so start with videos that include BOTH Daniel and Rex to get knowledge and fun. :devilish:
(The Legal reason is that they started a Distillery and needed to separate the 'Non-Profit' school the Vault is for from the Distillery (Whisk(e)y Tribe channel).

I like whiskey well enough, keep a couple bottlea of bourbon at home. Too poor fit expensive stuff.
