NTR is not a dream, its a nightmare. Just say NO to NTR!

Also, "avoidable" means EASILY avoidable, as in warned, without any mods/walkthroughs, that a choice will lead to NTR or whatever else someone wants to avoid (futa, gay, etc) rather than it can be avoided if you make the right choice on your own or with a mod/walkthrough. Also avoidable is if asked at the beginning if you want to include such content.

Idk, I've just never understood the concept of NTR to begin with. The Japanese are wild, repressed people and when I accidentally saw NTR for the first time I was just bewildered. I was confused that this could even happen, and I feel that people who enjoy it can very easily split themselves from pretending that they're the character in the game, to just some random dude jerking off to his computer, whereas people who are invested into the story, either consciously or unconsciously insert themselves into the story. I feel like all these games provide some sort of escapism, and to me, that means being invested into the story and inserting myself into it, so I'm fine with not enjoying NTR.

i swear i need to keep googling NTR, i can never remember what it is, obviously doesnt bother me but seems pretty contentious here?
Same, I've never understood why it's so taboo, but other wayyyy more deviant/harmful genres seem to be completely fine. I legitimately don't understand it

It's not about being taboo as if it is morally wrong, it's just that most people don't like it, but unlike something like foot fetishes or something that you can just ignore if it happens to you in the game, when it happens and you don't want it, it sucks and can ruin the game for people. For example imagine you're playing a game and you're straight and there's nothing that says the game has gay content, then you have an unskippable scene where some big dude comes and fucks your male character in the ass. You probably wouldn't like it and it would kinda ruin the game for you. It's the same for NTR, having someone come and steal your girl.

The issue is that historically a lot of games with NTR did not mention it was NTR. my guess was that those were japanese games and they didn't really give a fuck about advertising it properly if that happened and you didn't like it, so when it did, people would hate it if it was not advertised. and this hate continues to this day. Personally, if it's properly advertised that a game has NTR, I think it's fine for most people, they will either just ignore the game and not play it (like me) or they might bitch about it either for the meme, or because there is some hate towards NTR they think it's acceptable to do. so the conclusion is, you pretty much keep seeing hate against NTR and the cycle continues

That was a perfectly succinct explanation. Wow, thank you! Totally understand it now.

somehow every NTR thread I go into becomes a somewhat borderline civil to sometimes just ougright pitchforking each other.

Very difficult to answer, depends on how it fits in the gamestory. On average: no sharing.

The only problem I have with 'avoidable' type content (NTR included), is more of a development side issue.

As someone who has (and kinda does) software development at a professional level, I understand better than most the concepts of limited time/limited resources.

In the context of what are mostly Indy games (As adult games are a sub-genre of a sub-genre), the problem gets exacerbated greatly.

To state it plainly, I don't support and kind of dislike the idea of even avoidable content as it takes the limited time and resources that most of these devs have and draws it away from content that I will read/see/play.

For myself, this means that I am not going to 'pay/support' a game that will spend those resources making content that I won't even see, as this both delays the creation of content I do want and/or limits it.

Any software developer will tell you that a little more time and/or a little more money will always be better for their work. By splitting the focus (as with avoidable content) both sides get less attention and as a result, are less than they could be.

I am ok with playing a game like this, but given that some of these indy games cost supporters 40-60 euros per update (assuming 4-6 month release windows) and will eventually cost several hundred euros once the game is completed... paying more to have a lesser game that takes longer to release isn't a very good value proposition.

That why I cut support at the first sniff of content I dislike, avoidable or otherwise.

Well, in ANY game, no matter the content, it should absolutely NEVER involve only working on one path at a time, so people on other paths have to wait even longer.

Yes I agree.

I worked on technical software, which is fundamentally different than game design, but even there the idea of storyboarding, workflow and development cycles was a big part of planning and execution (and was often overlooked and downplayed in importance).

I would guess that if these steps are forgotten about in well-funded commercial developments, it is twicely true for indy games.

That is a really good point and interesting to see it from a developer's point of view. The opportunity cost means it's probably not worth it to support if you're only consuming 50% of the content

Honestly I don't mind NTR, as long as the story doesn't force me to play from the perspective of an mc whos an incapable lover with a micro-penis, or someone who only sits there watching; never fucking anything.
I prefer when it focuses on the Heroine(s) being a whore/slut succumbing to lust, rather than the MC being pathetic. I can even make a few exceptions. For an example, if I'm playing as an femc and the story rarely focuses on the guy, or he's some absentee husband who neglects his wife, then I don't usually mind either. I don't find it necessary for me to self-insert or imprint myself on the protag of porn games in order to enjoy them, the story is usually a bunch of nonsense anyway, or the main characters are pure dick heads.

I totally agree. Maybe it's a perspective thing, but I've never put myself in the shoes of the MC, so I don't care what happens to them. I think the disconnect is the people who form emotional bonds with the characters vs those who are just playing to get a quick "release".

I 100% believe this is exactly it. I consider myself capable of feeling both ways, but not every story is worth that level of investment, and I think most Devs are aware of this.

Warning! Potentially minefield topic!

Yesterday I played Faded Bonds:
https://lewdcorner.com/threads/faded-bonds-0-3-whispering-studios.5735/

The game is about a father reconnecting with his 3 daughters which were separated from him due to divorce. Basically the standard trope.

However, the twist is that in this game, the daughters are quite jealous of each other who get's most of daddy's attention.

And then I suddenly had an epiphany:

By creating a harem, the MC
must NTR the other love interests.

It's just human nature to be jealous.

So why would a love interest feel different about the MC getting it on with a girl who is not her, than the MC feels about a girl getting it on with some other guy?

Honestly, to assume jealousy doesn't exist and all love interests are fine with the harem the MC is building is just lazy story telling.

Any thoughts on this?

My guy, you do realise that polyamorous people exist right?
Might be unrealistic, but it's not impossible

Why is a woman who sleeps with a lot of men considered a slut, but a man who sleeps with a lot of women is considered a pimp?

I do agree with you, although I think it just boils down to the double standard most people fall into. Cool if a guy sleeps around but absolutely not okay for a woman.

Well it makes sense what you're saying, if you look into it from storytelling perspective harem is probably not imeplemnted with a deeper meaning. I havent played that game so cant say for that one specifically. Probably harem is just there so people can be with any, all or multiple characters at the same time. I hate when games have some hot girl that you can do shit with it, why put it there at first place. But I guess everyone has their own kinks and someone could find that appealing maybe.
