Should a game have a sex scene starting from version 0.1? Or, should the Dev hold off until the scene feels like part of the story?

I've noticed that in games where the story is more of a slow burn, the Dev might include a throw-away sex scene in versions 0.2 or 0.3.
Sometimes it's a character that was introduced only for the sex scene and just in time for the scene. Sometimes it's a daydream about a random character you might not see again.
I understand that the Devs feel pressured to give something since (usually) people are paying for the games and don't want to pay for no payout.
If it feels forced, then it feels like it undercuts the story.
So, my question: Should the sex scenes wait until they feel part of the story even if that could take a few updates?
Or, do you not mind a sex scene that doesn't necessarily feel like part of the story itself?

I definitely don't need a sex scene in 0.1. It should set the scene. 0.2 and 0.3 could even be the same. The breaking point to me is the update with the first sex scene. After that, I expect some kind of sex scene in each update.

Sure, but if you go this route you defintely need some teasing, or something to induce lots of sexual tension. I want to be interested and aroused even in an earlier version. Thats what keeps me looking forward to the next version.

i like the games where you meet a Love interest and then either at the end of the chapter or update, you have sex or end up getting close. sort of a cliff hanger of sorts. I like the build up of interest and the connection the characters have before the sex. If its sex right of the start, i usually expect that be with EVERYONE i meet in game

With a sufficiently interesting story that invests me in it, no not needed every update. If there is no real story or it is poorly written, plus no sex, then why keep playing? Too many other good games out there lol

Yeah, there needs to be some form of "this might happen if you play along". I called that "setting the scene" - maybe that was too vague 😊 .

I like to see one lewd scene in each update. I am fine for the first release to not have one, but at least give me a topless scene then to hold my interest. Now if you have a solid story I don't mind a slow burn for lewd content. You have to give me something though to keep my interest.

for v0.1 not expecting any scenes but after 2 - 3 updates i think there should be atleast 1 scene per update ( the developing time for each updates matters too)

I definitely want it in a first release. I get the reasoning in a really slow burn game but I also have no interest in playing those. If I see a 0.1 without any penetration tags I'll just skip over it and wait for future updates to even consider it. A lot of the time the only reason a game doesn't have any sex in a first release is because most first releases are way too short. More devs need to focus on longer first releases that impress players and make them want more instead of releasing something way before it's ready just to get it out there. It's not like most supporter are willing to actually sub to something that takes 30 minutes to play through and has no history of consistent updates. I also want to see that the quality of sex scenes of a game I might be investing many hours into in the future will be worth my time. Not some janky 2 render attempt at an animation.

I don't play newly released games, usually I wait for at least like 4-5 updates anywany. And I hate when devs don't stick to typical version naming schemes and go for something like 0.1 -> 0.23

I think it depends on the time between updates. If a game gets frequently, it's okay to wait a little. Now, first impressions are important, I think the dev should at try to make a good first impression.

most of the time i can't be bothered with a .1--there's gotta be some substance there for me to invest the time

I feel the sex scenes must be well integrated and occur at the right time, taking into account the character's personality and development. As a general rule, in a story you want the characters to have different personalities, so you will have some that are more lewd and therefore more prone to do this type of acts. Or you could even start a story with a rape/blackmail of a character and it would count as a sex scene.

I would like to say that developing the story is more important than the sex scenes.

However, I really need to know what the sex scene art will look like. If I don't find the art style interesting enough
then I may not want to continue the story.

Obviously if they are a well established artist it isn't a problem. If they are newer, then I hope they release some
rough draft pieces to give us an idea.

I'm gonna be biased as a dev here, but I think a good story doesn't need a sex scene every update if you are making a story-heavy game. After all, players should be there for the ride, not the destination. If it's some RPG where the goal is to conquer and sleep with a hundred different girls, then yeah adding a several sex scenes would be the best idea, because that's your major selling point.

I'm not interested in ultra-slow-burn stuff; and the audience for that probably works differently.

If the first release is meant to be more than a mere demo, there should be some satisfying conclusion, and that would naturally be a sex scene. However, not a sex scene which is shoehorned in with a character we don't care about, but rather a sex scene that actually fits the story. (Dream stuff, unless done well, risks being unsatisfying while also taking away from the impact of the real scene later.) This will often mean that the first release has to be significantly more substantial than subsequent updates to get to that point.

If the goal is to release a demo, there still should be a sex scene. This is because without seeing how the dev does sex scenes, how do I know whether I like it or not?

I don't feel the NEED for sex scenes in any updates. For me, adult games means adult relationships, and sex is obviously on the table with those, but I don't like when chars are introduced just for filling the sex scene quota. It should happen if it makes sense to the story development, and only then. Likewise, I don't really mind story updates without sex even after some sex scenes. I dislike them only if they just provide exposition, without advancing the plot.

I prefer slowburn. One of my all time favorite games I played for 5 hours and there was no sex in there the whole time. It was sensual. But since I was really into the story, I didn't pay attention to it.
