People like different things. It's fine if you don't like honey select models. Personally I like them

I didn’t like them either until I played ripples.

Now that I look at ripples previews, it seems HS is perfect for ahegao scenarios

I suspect that's because Honey Select is an easy way to make low quality games with low effort character ect. There's a big difference between the games that people put almost no effort into and games like Eternum. Some of the newer stuff has a lot more variety than the older games too thanks to more mods coming out. Also there is a big difference between HS1 (the original Honey Select) and HS2 (Honey Select 2). IMO HS2 is much easier to make characters look varied and unique but also now the more common one to use for lazy games.

All that being said it's a less realistic style but not full cartoon. There's always going to be plenty of people that dislike it and DAZ overall has more fans anyway.

I play a few HS games, but I typically avoid them. My New Family, Ripples, My Bully is My Lover are a few of the ones I enjoy playing that are HS.

It's a reference to a japanese dish. From Wikipedia:
