Okay so;
- schools (wether you spend time there as MC as a student/teacher/other reasons)
- family home (where you pretty much spend most the game inside the family home)
- farm (or way out of town, think of MC suddenly moving out to the middle of nowhere to go live a new life)

I think these are the most common ones I've encountered but most clichés are in the characters and story usually. Most settings don't differ all that much from my experience.

It's done to death, but I actually enjoy games where you move back home and have to familiarize yourself with everyone at work/school. I like it less when you inevitably stumble upon an insane criminal or scifi conspiracy.

Yes.

1. Home setting: As long as incest is a popular fetish this is going to be a popular setting.
2. School setting: Easy access to girls of various ages as well as older women in the form of teachers. Easily combinable with the home setting (son=student, father=teacher/headmaster).
3. Magic setting: Any game where the MC has magic powers or is chosen by a spirit/goddess of love/lust. Allows for some more niche fetishes like mindcontrol or monstergirls, to be included. Can also be combined with other settings like a magic school setting.
4. Super setting: Whether it is superheroes or villians this allows for similar fetishes as the magic setting like mind control. Popular during the MCU years.
5. Isolation setting: Any setting that isolates the characters from the rest of society. Allows the writer to disregard things that are unimportant for their plot. A familiy that is isolated during a lockdown (popular setting in the post-covid years) does not have to worry about school or work or interacting with other people. In a post-apocalyptic setting the rules of society may have changed and allow for actions that previously would be banned. A summer camp is like a school setting where the families/homelives of the students can be ignored.

There are obiviously a lot more settings. I am of course not saying these settings are bad just observing that they are used often which is because they deal with the most popular fetishes. If beastiality was more popular we probably would see more content in a farm setting.
