which captain do you think was better?
personally i lean more towards kirk

Depends on what you need. Diplomacy and clever tactics? Picard.
Space chess tournament? Punching a Gorn in the face? Kirk.
Somebody to cook a delicious meal? To violate every Star Trek directive in the same day and be able to live with it? Sisko.
To straight up murder people? Janeway.
To look good shirtless while rubbing decon gel on himself? Archer.
To come up with a different impressive hairstyle every season? Burnham.

I grew up in the 80s, so I grew up watching Picard. Not saying I don't like Kirk.. cause I do.

But for me.. if I have to choose, it's Jean-Luc.

I'll go with Captain Pike. Seriously though it's tough as I loved both and watched both Kirk/Picard growing up.

Why only two, there's lots of ST captains to choose from. Picard wins for sure, but I felt Janeaway really was quite good.

Kirk. Sisko is second, then Picard. Janeway was dead last until Michael Burnham. You could argue Archer should be dead last because Enterprise along with Nemesis killed Star Trek.

When i speak of Kirk i mean Shatner, just like for me Nimoy is the only Spock.

People don't have to agree but there is one James Bond Sean Connery, One Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill, and only one Han Solo/Indiana Jones in Harrison Ford.

for bond i though roger moore wasn't too bad even though it seemed the films were trying to head down the more comedic route instead of spy thriller.

Picard, the poet. The philosopher, the explorer. That went away with the TNG movies. Stewart wanted Picard to have love interests and fight scenes. In the end his fight, war with the Borg is what he is now. See Picard Season 3.

Picard by far, I got into Star Trek a lot later but going back is much easier with Generations and for me, it's impossible to slog through William Shatners overacting.

He actually became a god. Good thing Roddenberry wasn't around he would have been against it. He didn't like Shatner's script for Star Trek V about Kirk searching for Christ and finding the Devil. He hated the script for VI because Kirk was a racist.
