discussion Which apocalyptic concept do you all like most?

Concepts like Zombie Apocalypse, Alien invasions, Nuclear Apocalypse, etc. in any media really. Personally I really like a civil apocalypse, just a total collapse of modern society and going back to their primal or medieval roots sounds like an interesting concept for a movie or game for me.

I like the idea of humanity abandoning the large population centers because of the apocalyptic scenario and grouping together in tight knit smaller communities, not really regressing technologically, but overall humanity becoming smaller and trying to hang on to all they've achieved thus far. Games like State of Decay and Cataclysm kinda follow this and they've always interested me. The Walking Dead also sorta fits to an extent too

Zombie and nuclear feel overdone at this point. You can get a lot of the same result as nuclear with natural disaster without the other baggage. Pandemic feels a bit too close to home now . I like the idea of a god dying unexpectedly and things just being a mess in the aftermath. Societal where society just ropes off the fucked up area and ignores it is also fun (Escape from NY/LA).

If you ask me the cause isnt all that important. What is important is the after effects. The road is a good example, in the book/film its never explicitly stated what the initial cataclysm was but we see the after-effects of it all. Basically, as long as its not something like the good ol' "2012" film its got a chance of being good in my books.

Nuclear fallout and Infection/Zombies are definitely my favorite, but I want to explore more Alien or Machines took over the world media. I recently read a comics called Cross and that was the most dark Infection apocalypse comic I have read. I think I enjoy the first two more than a lot of other apocalypse types because it usually results in a much faster decline in societal stability. I enjoy zombies more because I love zombies plain and simple!

Zombies are boring and always without any hope for a future. But a climatic catastrophe, mad-max stile, forcing people to stone age plus knowledge of tech has the best options.
Specially under basic rules where women's values were tied to their sexuality. As it would be in any form of real life apocalypse.

Nuclear war. Thousands will survive (but not for long), but they will soon envy the dead. London, Moscow, Berlin, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Beijing — turned into glass deserts. Cancer, radiation sickness, a shortage of surviving resources and the degradation of medical care (a significant portion of the drug supplies will be destroyed), qualified doctors will be worth their weight in gold, and finally, a water shortage.A brilliant scenario. You know, if the hour of X comes, I won’t run for cover. I’ll take out a bottle of vodka I’ve kept specially for this occasion and drink it quickly. It’ll be more fun to die that way. But at least in the last seconds of my life, I’ll have a chance to see a sight that few have ever witnessed.

They're all kind of the same to me—it's all just a pretext to get abandoned buildings and some threat roaming around, be it zombies or bandits—but especially since what I find cool about apocalyptic settings is the ability to explore all the abandoned buildings, cities, etc. In fact, I usually prefer it when zombies, bandits, or aliens don't show up, because that interrupts the fun urban exploration with largely uninteresting combat.

Post-apocalyptic is just fun. I feel like with all the scenarios already mentioned you can be extremely mundane and shallow but also find an angle that's genuinely interesting, as always with popular scenarios the difference is in the writing and in the inspiration more than anything.

Also, now I need to listen to Tech Noir. Again.

There something very strange and realistic about the civil apocalypse. Modern institutions just stop functioning well enough to survive and there is no one left who knows how to put it all back together again. You're just living among the ruins of what feels like an alien civilization.

There something very strange and realistic about the civil apocalypse. Modern institutions just stop functioning well enough to survive and there is no one left who knows how to put it all back together again. You're just living among the ruins of what feels like an alien civilization.

Imagine our offsprings being born in that kind of world, the modern world being imagined like some alien world, it's for real a really REALLY interesting concept, I could also make do with a Dr. Stone concept where a protagonist is a the only hope for saving humanity or something, either way watching people going back to the basic fundamentals of nature fascinates me so much.

Maybe is way too typical by now but definitely Zombie Apocalypse. I don't know, I just love the concept of it and you know, you always think you'll have a chance at surviving when maybe you're not going to make it that far lol.

Maybe I'm just a cliché fan, but zombie apocalypses are my favorite. They're like the perfect backdrop for any theme you want to explore—whether it's drama, survival, history, action-packed scenes, etc.

And they don’t even have to be zombies—you can use whatever you want, as long as they’re aggressive and dangerous to the survivors. Infected people, mutants, monsters, creatures—whatever comes to mind.
