    I could play a game just for the story. But if there are few meaningful choices and I have to click through it line by line then what's the point. Reading a book would be a more enjoyable way to receive a story than endless clicking.

    Often times its when the dev decides to include a sandbox. Sandboxes aren't inherently bad but if there isn't much content or the day cycle is too short or too long then it just becomes grindy and tedious.

    There are a few good sandbox games out there but the vast majority have very little content for the amount of clicking required.

    I think it depends on the quality of the art. Our Red String by Eva Kiss doesn't really use any sophisticated animation and is still enjoyable.

    There something very strange and realistic about the civil apocalypse. Modern institutions just stop functioning well enough to survive and there is no one left who knows how to put it all back together again. You're just living among the ruins of what feels like an alien civilization.
