discussion would you rather an ugly protagonist or the same one from dozens of games

I prefer commonly used male MC models than an ugly one. Even better is when MC's face is not shown.

I don't care if it's the same face in every game. The number 1 turn off for me in Female Protagonist games is that SO many of them have Ugly / Old / Fat love interests. I get it's likely to either facilitate male players to self insert as a LI... OR... to "humiliate" (without the tag and/or definition) the female MC... but that doesn't do it for me.

As usual, not taking away from those that like that content. Just not for me.

Pretty much. There's tons of games that I've avoided because the female MC is ugly.

Very much depend on the genre of the game for me, as I think for you to have an ugly bastard protagonist, I think the story kinda of has to go around him, instead of the same one from a dozen games, where it does not matter his looks for the game

I'd rather generic than ugly. There are games I can't get into because the male characters are just hideous. Hell, the entire "ugly bastard" sub-genre in hentai is basically locked off to me, because I can't for the life of me get past how awful the characters look.

I don't want to insert into the male characters in a story any more than I do the female characters, so that's not my issue. The issue, for me, is that I'm here to fap. That's extremely difficult to do when the very attractive woman I'm trying to focus on is being thrust into and drooled over by a human tub of lard. If The Blob from Marvel is having sex with Emma Frost, I'm not going to be focusing on Emma, no matter how much I want to. The uniquely awful looks of the male character distract and disgust me entirely, and so I can't manage to enjoy the one thing I'm trying to enjoy in engaging with the work.

An ugly protag makes this worse. At least if it's a side character or something, I only run into him during the scenes where he's involved. If it's the protagonist, though? I'm catching glimpses of his wretched mug all over the place. I'm enjoying a scene where a 9.5/10 is getting her insides rearranged, and then the camera angle switches to a side-on view so the swamp man railing her is on full display. Instant boner killer, and a disgusted closing of the game to open something else. Sometimes I'll even delete the application outright, because I figure I'm going to run into more situations like that the further I go. Not ideal.

If you want me to see the protag, make him look good, and hopefully unique. Failing that, shoot for generic. Don't give me ugly.
