It's simple—it comes down to personal taste. Even if you think they're generic trash (which, in some cases, I agree with), for others, they're exactly what they're looking for and what they enjoy. This creates an audience for those games, which motivates other developers to create more of the same, seeing that they have an audience and a positive reception with minimal effort.

It’s basically the same thing that happens in the triple-A video game industry with titles like CoD and FIFA—it’s the same game over and over again, but since there are people who buy it and also spend more money on microtransactions, even though they’re a piece of crap made with minimal effort, they generate profits that lead to more games being released.

At least 90% of them are 3DVNs (purely CGs). Those are the ones I'm talking about, I don't know if there are any that have animations, difficult to distinguish when they all look the same, but for some reason some of them have thousands of players.

And as porn games can explore themes that legal live-action porn can't (incest, other fetishes that you can find on this website), they satisfy a lot of people's kinks. I totally get what the OP is saying, though. There are an awful lot of generic porn games and slop that cater to specific fetishes out there, and that number has grown exponentially in the last few years because of AI. But I think that is because there is a demand for them. It's annoying and maybe we'll see a drop-off soon. For the moment, it just means that you need to sift through the garbage to get to the good stuff.

Yes, there's always been a lot of "garbage" but I think it's mostly because there's a lot of content available for everybody to choose from, which is a good sign for the community. One man's trash is another man's treasure after all.

If I understand you correctly. You are mainly talking about the AVN's (Adult Visual Novel). The key word there is "novel". It's erotica with pictures and should be viewed as such. A few of them offer some form of gameplay, but even then the main point is the story.
Sure, a lot of them (probably most) are not well thought out or have good writing. But there are a few gold ones out there. And a lot of ppl can look past the bad writing.
The second biggest reason I believe is immersion. To be able to immerse yourself in a story and live out your sickest fantasies in a safe environment without hurting anyone.

I, for one, love a good, thought-out kinetic AVN with a slow burn. And while I'm reading, it's almost like I'm living the life of the protagonist vicariously.

I know there are those who mainly click through them for the pics and animations. That I never really understood. The animations aren't really that good to begin with, so why not watch porn or hentai instead?

You ever watch a porn with an actual story? It's horrible, right? Mainly because the acting is so bad.
The bad acting is not really a problem with AVNs because the acting happens in your head.

Why would someone choose 3D over 2D considering that the latter has more variety and better aesthetics in most cases? In addition to better mechanics, gameplay, narrative, optimization, and a long etcetera...

Take "games" off and ask the same question. You get the same answer. It doesnt matter all that much if it is the same because most people consuming this content are in it for the tits, not the plot. And even those like me that are in it for the plot are not expecting half a billion worth of Hollywood talent in it.

Nah, they are literally not the same, I like 3D animated porn, I follow some animators and each of them has their own style and aesthetic, the same does not apply to games.
Also no, the plot is not important, it is even irrelevant.

I would say it simply comes down to a preference of aesthetics for the sense of immersion. It's just easier to immerse yourself, if the characters look and feel realistic.
Most 2D games are cartoons or anime characters. I, for one, don't really find that attractive enough to satisfy my lustful needs. ;P I tried some out, and sure, there are plenty of good ones. But, I rarely end up continuing a 2D AVN after the first go. If I can't relate to the world, the MC or the LI. I can't trick myself into falling for the "realism".
If we take a look at the 3D render engines developers use. For me, Koikatsu is out, straight away, simply because of the anime look.
I prefer VaM > DaZ > HS (if it's done well)
What ppl find sexually attractive is based on numerous different factors and is deeply psychological and personal.

That's because ppl who are looking for a story are not that interested in gameplay in the first place. And therefore usually call it a grind. If I'm just looking for a quick wank, I will go for porn. Or maybe I speed through an old favorite. But whenever a new chapter drops for one of the AVN's I follow. I know I have 1-2h hopefully more, of quality time ahead of me. So I make myself a drink, drop the pants, and get comfy. XD

I agree with your rating of KKS. The faces.... the weird shapes that everyone defense "thats how anime is" - NOPE! Thats not how any anime faces ive ever seen are. The bone structure is all wrong and it annoys the shit out of me. But... VAM over DAZ? I.... There are a lot of things I like on VAM more than DAZ, but not enough to put it on top. First, VAM always has this thing I cant explain. It makes me feel like I am watching an 80s vhs video. The colors or texture, not sure. Ive talked to others about it and they sometimes agree but also cant explain it exactly. Second, hair. VAM hair is too wiry and very thin stuff when rendered tends to have an oddly rough appearance. I guess I could say it makes me think of very fine hair that is covered in dirt. But I do like how the VAM hair moves and flows vs DAZ. And the animations. I think VAM does animations much better. I dont know how they are done in VAM (Ive done some in DAZ), but for example, they seem to have some sort of collision system that DAZ does not. But... sometimes that can be a downfall too. Ive seen animations in VAM where a dick hits a pussy and shoves it open, but in the most nightmare way. Like... It stretches it open to about 3-4x the size it needs to be to fit because something went wrong with the collision, and the dev just went with it.

I would love for one of the 2 to fix the things the other does better and take the crown, but for now DAZ is just slightly ahead to me. HS2... a fairly distance 3rd place.
