Which game engine do you hate?

Anything in HTML seems sus to me.
Engine itself isn't as bad as like RPGM , but it always also has the real porn tag, which is never good. Only way it would be would be if they hired porn performers or part of the dev team looked good enough and were willing to take care of it themselves.

All porn game engines suck in some way.

RPGM is for JRPGs, and most porn JRPGs are bad JRPGs. You can fix this with enough Javascript, but then why not just put it in a browser?
Renpy is a security nightmare and slows down if things get too complex (Python is reliant on offloading complex calculations to non-Python libraries).
Unity/Godot games are either massively bloated or have bad UX because the devs have to reinvent everything.
HTML is probably the best presentation layer (it would be the most secure) but most HTML games are Twine/Sugarcube and end up being bad text adventure games. Even doing something basic like leaving the controls at the top of the screen and printing text below it is beyond most devs.

I generally filter out anything that isn't Renpy.

I guess I am the oddball here in that I like RPGM, but it is only because I like checking off lists. The engine I do not like is QSP, its tewwible!

pretty sure no one likes rpgm and i will die on that hill

I don't like anything made with rpgm most games I play are made in renpy

I see a lot of hate towards RPGM, and it's understandable. The truth is that 9 out of 10 RPGM games are pretty bad, but that doesn't mean there aren't good games out there, and they're the ones that truly justify using RPGM. It's a very convenient and easy-to-get-into tool for those just learning how to make a game. The problem is that, like any tool, you have to use it for what it was created and get the most out of it.
In other words... don't make a visual novel in RPGM when you can make it in Ren'py, and at the same time, don't make an RPG in Ren'py when you can make it in RPGM. There are specific cases where it's worked out, but there are many more cases where it's gone wrong.

The games that are a "no" for me are those made in Unreal Engine. It's a good engine, and you can do great things with it... but it's not easy to use. Most games end up abandoned due to developer limitations, and during development, you'll notice that the games' performance is usually pretty pitiful.
I don't want to say that good things can't come out of UE, but it's rare to see that happen.

I hate it when my comments sound like I'm trash-talking some developers.

I generally dislike RPGM.
  • Not having that rollback when I realize (all too late) that my dyslexia struck again is a crushing blow to RPGM; but this admission proves Ren'py spoiled me.
  • Many devs won't throw in a "hide dialogue" function--or add a blank entry--and it blocks half the CG... oof man.
  • Not being able to save at literally any time is a major shortcoming, as well. Even Unity games have had this problem too, though.
*Edit: The sickest part is that one of my favorite adult games is made with RPGM.

rpgm is so boring

I don't get the hate for RPGM. If the art and story is good why not?
It is very limited in QoL features - It falls on the dev to implement good systems for player to interact with the game, and it is common for devs to ignore that.

Having to navigate is an extreme pain in the ass - plus it's usually default graphics for the map which are bad by late 1980s standards. And 9 times out of 10 if the dev is using RPGM the art and story aren't very good. Navigating around a map is worse than sandbox.

HTML just sucks, genuinely.

I mostly avoid unreal engine and have some dislike for unity.

I prefer renpy, but have played a few rpgm and html. The Renpy just seem better in general

I don't really find myself enjoying html/twine games. I really like Ren'Py and don't really have an issue with RPGM.

Most engines can make a good game IMO, but some really make you work for it...
