MC + 3 max. This way you can make something more deep and create a slow burn like in Light of my life. Great game. But for games where the plot is like a porn movie, than you can add as much as you want

after mc +3/4 it starts to be a little cluttered but i guess a good artist could make any scene look good

for me the max is 3, most games can't accomplish a good scene with a big number of characters because then none gets all the attention needed

+1 or +2 more than that and it gets too busy/messy, if that makes sense.

My favorite is MC + mother or older sister coaching daughter or younger sister.
Oh, I also love Oyakodon, but the girls don't even need to be related. The dynamic of an older, experienced woman corrupting an younger, innocent girl is really hot. Sadly is not that common, I'd love to see more of it.

I prefer a small cast with lots of development between the characters. 2 to 3, at max 5.
I'm generally uninterested in single use side chick's, unless they offer something more to the story.

I'm picky I know 😄

I played games where 20 girls pain and all over a little have content, and while "go on a date with 20 girl" have same on the way forget that was from 1 to 10...

A small cast that can have overlap in their stories. Desert Stalker does a great job of involving multiple characters in each others stories. Anything more than three girls and I start picking favorites and holding skip through content to get to the best girl, and WEG developers struggle to put out sizable updates in the first place.

Depends what kind of game, but I would say no less than 3 and no more than 7 or 8 including secondary characters. More than that it falls apart, even if it were technically perfect there's just that many characters I can care about.

also consider that 3 main love interest and 3-4 side, the most is to all have time and not forget anyone.
