I view it negatively in terms of copyright and creative freedom, however in technological advancement or automation I approve them getting used as such.

Honestly, I personally feel AI will almost never be used for the good of many, either in story/art or in other fields.

Not to mention, for specifically art/story, they are just too easily noticeable and sign of laziness 99.9% of the time.

I've definitely gotten pretty burned out on it myself, I feel most of the people that use them use the exact same AI and filters so the characters all look the same. It is kind of funny though because recently I started looking into making AI for myself because the idea of AI does interest me and the fact that I can run them on my computer and not be online is pretty great.

Using AI for chatbot is fun occasionally, if you can run it locally for privacy.

It can be used to fill in small gaps in the game development process, but that's it! Using it to replace hand-drawn images and other type of contect that relies on artistic talent will result in disaster!

The thing is, if you use AI, you better disclaim it before people find out themselves, as it would otherwise lead to a reduce in interest in the game.

But if you disclaim using AI, a lot of people will be put off due to their reputation of stealing other people works regardless of what you use it for.

i dont like generative ai its the stealer of things and makes a nasty creature of its meal, i want a true ai though one day

If you were to ask me when I first discovered it, I would say its pretty neat. But currently, I only see it negatively.

It gets used excessively in literally everything by everyone for no reason.

A majority of the general public doesn't know enough about AI, so they treat it like a tool that can do everything.

I get very irked when I'm having a conversation and someone says "I'll ask ChatGPT" and then they believe the answer it generates without a second thought. Or, they look at the google AI summary and believe whatever misinformation it spews out.

And don't even get me started on generative AI art. There is no reason to use it other than laziness. You're sacrificing quality for time and effort. Just learn to draw.

It should be used to lighten workloads and not steal art IMO

They used AI on a Taco Bell ad. It was a stick figure.

Probably the downfall of humanity. Not from Skynet or whatever but from whole generations of people growing increasingly dependent on information spoon-fed from LLMs drinking from a slurry of their own slop.

Butlerian Jihad's gonna be fun though.

on this note, what do y'all think about AI possible becoming self aware?

I think AI is going to replace a lot of jobs that required repetitive tasks or which didnt need that human connection as for the current AI hype, its gonna calm down in 3 to 5 years or so.

For me its pretty simple, on a small scale AI is great. There are some artists out there who use it to help them along in the process, but not have it do the whole thing, and the end result can come out looking as good as normally created art. On a large scale though? Awful, horrible, truly the worst. Going onto any booru that doesn't blanket ban AI art is just a constant struggle to not lose your mind. It's non-stop spam from people who put in a prompt and slap the generate batch button 30 times and then post EVERY result they get, and 90% of the time they don't tag it as AI so you can't even filter it out with search syntax. Beyond that there is the obvious issues of jobs being stolen by robots, the ethical concerns of data collection, all that stuff, but the thing that will always bother me the most is just how much AI porn gets spammed out without any human input other than the uploading (and some people probably automate that too).

As for the AI becoming self-aware, probably not with any current gen models. Most of them just finish your sentences basically, only a few support 'reasoning' and they are in their early stages.

Also I'm not an expert, so if they become self-aware tomorrow, sorry. All hail our AI overlords, I for one welcome the inevitable!

AI is lame.
It just let you lazily auto google.
It doesn't remember all your said preferences.
It doesn't have intelligent - it's fckin program that has algorithm and when you see it's patterns you become uninterested.

Well, I think my opinion on AI varies largely based on the field we're talking about. For art, i think it's ok for still images if you disclaim that it's an AI image. For games I think it's lazy and takes away from the experience, as I've not seen it done well yet. For chat services, I could care less. For compiling things like my yearly self review at work I love it. I mean I still need to rework a bunch of it but overall it turned what used to be a 5hr project into a 1-2 hr one.
