What would a dev have to do in a new update to make you stop playing a really good game?

Unnecessary Remakes to not continue the story so dev can milk more money without doing any effort

Add content belonging to a tag I actively avoid.

I drop when they drop a character i like, or changing the story just for more audience even though they can make another game and finisih the old one with 2 more update

For me it would be removing old content that was "canon" previously. Same with changing models too many times, I've had it in games where the "new" model looked worse and that really sucks if that's the girl/woman you like the most. I also really do not like that suddenly a choice you made 3 chapters ago is NOW coming into play but was not alluded to. Maybe another one would be if the dev all of a sudden starts rolling really miniscule updates, but that's probably just PTSD from all the devs going on hiatus after their game becomes popular enough.. What do you guys think?
I was playing a game I liked called Burned, the newest version/update was all about some weird time traveling
crap, so I just quit the game. The whole time travel thing doesn't always work, and it seems when a developer
is stuck on how to proceed they will bring in the whole time traveling thing.

Or some weird type thing, or rush to an end, etc.

Paywalling paths, drastic model changes, or completely abandoning or pruning story threads altogether are some of my deal-breakers.

Yeah, a paywall actually makes a dev LESS likely to get support, just like in AAA games draconian DRM actually increases piracy. A really bad thing is when - like for SecuROM - even Windows considers it malware and it no longer worked without effort in later editions of Windows 7 (8 maybe, too?) or at all in 10+...

my rule is if you make it hard to play your game, I wont support or play it. next would be the changing or removing of content, I can forgive it it some extent but it grinds my gears. Then finally they add NTR, just like why? avoidable is annoying, but unavoidable is just wrong. the harem game doesn't need it, don't just add it cause someone paid a lot for it.

I'm not sure. A lot of stuff I don't like, but I'll put up with a lot if the rest of the game is good. Probably certain kinds of NTR, but almost anything is up for negotiation. If I see a trend of it getting worse I might jump ship.

The primary BAD thing is making a MAJOR change. It may be adding things that have NEVER been a part of the game previously (things like NTR, Urination, Rape, or other things that don't fit with earlier development). This tends to cause a lot of damage because people have started playing (and liking) a game then unexpected or unwanted things enter with NO warning. If something is planned to be added hints or even direct information about it SHOULD be given well BEFORE it appears.

Sudden changes in character behavior (whether MC or others) can also be an issue. Over time we grow to understand how a character will react to things and a SUDDEN shift to have them become something else is an issue. Yes, personalities CAN change, but there needs to be REASONS given for that change. An independent character should NOT suddenly become timid and dependent without a reason. An independent character that has been saved (or received significant assistance) when dealing with a traumatic event might become more dependent or timid. For behaviors to change we NEED to be given reasons. This is ESPECIALLY true in games where we spend a great deal of time developing relationships with other characters.

Just a thought.

When there's unavoidable content like bestiality. Or when tags don't reflect the actual content like there's an incest tag but mc just winked once at a distant cousin.

1- This is probably the most important. Reworking the game from scratch. I.e. instead of another update, we roll back to the very beginning of development. Summertime Saga is a classic of the genre.
2. "Breaking" the plot by bringing it to absurdity. Including endless multiplication/branching of the storyline (Love & Sex: Second Base) or by increasing LI, bringing their number to an unthinkable number (Reunion, Grandma's House).

I agree. Love & Sex: Second base got really annoying for me. I've stopped playing that one.

Pull a "New Years Day(e)" and completely change the tone of the game from happy/loving by suddenly having a rape.

Having certain content be avoidable, but then said content becomes the primary focus. Having you befriend multiple LIs, and even have them be friends with each other, to suddenly go, "CHOOSE ONLY ONE TO CONTINUE WITH." Having a pregnancy tag, but the only pregnancy is an already pregnant side character that only shows up for a few scenes, or is very brifely shown in end scenes. And then there's the constantly bringing up content you don't want to see, but won't let you disable it by default.
Or something like with Nila, where they kill themself if you aren't romantically interested in them.

Hmm, if have been removals and changes from previous updates, if the update was quite short after months of waiting(without a good reason), or a sudden paywall for previously free content, an annoucement of a remake, and if they add more and more LI, even though there hasnt been any actual development with of the existing ones.

I'll often stop playing games if they are more than a few updates in and break saves multiple times. In that case I'll just wait for them to be completed to pick them up again though.

The focus on NTR and femdom for the last few updates of Bound By Lust has really killed my excitement for that game. It always has those as optional tags but with how glacial the update pace is I don't think an update for it has interested me for like 3 years now.

Harem Hotel and Mythic Manor have spent so long in development that they just look dated now compared to new stuff in HS2 or modded HS1, when they first came out they were comparatively high quality but now they are middle of the road despite the quality of the games not really changing, just the market changing around them.
