People like stories and good writing can enhance the experieance.

It's a cheap/easy source of assets for someone who wants to tell a story. Games like The Company tried to move away from RL porn images/clips and supporters rejected it, because they like the result.

The games with real porn made of screenshots from porn videos lacks consistency, the MC is not always the same actor, so it breaks the narration.
Making a VN with real actors could be possible only with big earnings, because many people will be invlved. So it seems difficult to be achieved for a new project.

Sometimes it’s fine, but it just doesn’t work for me when they say a character is innocent or something but they have a porn star representing them. Also the clips rarely work well for the scenario

They usually use poorly compressed images and videos. and are poorly made because the platforms used are not well suited for this kind of gameplay IMO.

I don't mind HTML games, but they REALLY need to be held up good writing more than other games do. And by writing I mean the dialogue, descriptions, etc. The story can take a backseat since it's a porn game, but since HTML games are basically a text game with a few pictures, it NEEDS good writing.

Came back to this thread after looking at a few HTML as, uh, "research"... So I think the main problem with HTML games is that they appear to be low-effort, which is also why we get an oversaturation of crappy realporn games that got abandoned when their devs realized coding isn't a walk in the park. I find this problematic because there are a few gems hidden among them, but because of the stigmata of "low effort and often abandoned" these gems get overlooked. Some of the promising devs ended up abandoning something that had a glimmer of potential because of backlash or lack of public interest, and then never make anything again when their only crime was their choice of presentation.

I think what I'm trying to say is: HTML games LOOK like shit, but you can't judge a product solely based on it's packaging. Some HTML games deserve at least a quick look to see their merits. And yes, there's always a lot of garbage mixed in with the crowd, but this is true of Renpy, Unity, and RPGM games as well.
