What do you guys think about "parody" games?

In my opinion it doesnt matter if the game is a parody. I have played parody games that are interesting, but I hate when I see a minimal developement and I find the same dating games under differents skins. The same actions, the same gameplay, the same options.

If it's being parodied, the base work is probably well done. That means the parody has a well build universe, and well built characters to work with.

A lot of devs can make sexy scenes, but their writing outside that is garbage. Parody can help with that.

Also I usually find r34 hot, so maybe I'm just bias.

I like games that play within the universe and lore of an existing franchise, but they don't have to be "parodies".

Most parody games rely too much on whatever it is they are parodying (or copying under the pretense of parody). Developers who are actually capable of creating good games seem to prefer coming up with their own worlds, where they have full flexibility to do what is required for the game to actually work.

I agree 100% (y)

If a game contains references to other works and can be interpreted as parody, then that's great. A game that copies and parodies the world of another work only makes you realize that the original is far better than the parody.

As in all things, when well done they can be very entertaining. Done poorly, they of course suck. I don't seek them out though.

Parody games at times can get caught up in the whole idea that they are a parody game and thus never actually cement any solid ideas or unique aspects, relying entirely on the idea of people playing it and going "haha parody reference original or cliche trope"

Problem is that most parody games are not well done at all. Parody games should have parallels to the actual story somehow, thats what make a parody unique after all.
Four Element Trainer is the best example for a good Parody game.

When done well -- or at least competently -- they're some of my favorites. 4 Elements Trainer, The Pilgrimage, Smurfing the Smurfettes (Why yes, I do have an eclectic taste, why do you ask?)

When done poorly... It just feels like sticking your dick into industrial farm equipment. A lot of groaning and really bad grind.

I would've played the parody game that is done right. But unless you know characters REALLY well, it's hard to do. Otherwise - it's a great chance to look at the characters in different angle and different situations.

I'm not a fan of parodies, but some of them are pretty well done.

I don't have much knowledge of the anime and video games etc that the parodies are based on so I can play them as long as the required knowledge isn't to great.

Stories are dog shit but I love seeing a character from a show/game/movie I watch/play in a porn game scenario. I prefer for them to be in their world and setting tho,
This. Parody suggest they should be funny but they rarely are but seeing characters from movies or TV shows and other mainstream games is fun.

Although most "parody" games were low quality cash-grabs, I feel like they were quite often the gateway adult games for people. Games like Meet n Fuck was often found in shady game sites which made it easy to discover for "18+ individuals" and were attractive due to the recognizable characters featured. Overall, It's something interesting to think about for supposed cookie-cutter adult games.

some parodies work though it does need to be written well. Unfortunately most are poor writing. The ones that last for a while like the four elements trainer would appear to be good, I haven't played it yet, but have noticed it for quite a while.

Big fan. I already feel connected to the characters so its easier to get immersed in their world
