What are your thoughts on TVs in VNs using real movie/show footage and audio?

Probably an odd thought, but idk. Whenever the MC and love interest are watching a movie and it's like screenshots from an actual movie, it just feels off. Maybe it's the 3d rendering with the live action pictures that feel uncanny? Same with porn footage too being shown.

It's nothing serious, but just feels weird to me. Your thoughts?

Yeah, I feel the same way. Not much a fan of it. Would be fun if they made a render involving these scenes.

That's a very specific query.

I don't really pay much attention to it, but it does open the dev up to litigation so they prolly shouldn't do that.

That said, nothing shows the developer's age, or ages the game, as much as injecting pop-culture references, slang and other media in the product. It might be funny if you play it when the game is being actively developed or just recently released, but after a while it's just weird.

Very good points. Although, one of my favorite VNs does have several Witcher 3 references and I got a big kick out of it. :)

If the game is 3D and have decent lighting, it doesn't feel as weird, but yeah, I've played games that had some kinda cartooney shading and the real life porn on the TV were veryout of place. Hahaha

Witcher 3 is still in the gamer zeitgeist though, so that's not really a counter example.

Sometimes weird, but most of them are irrelevant, so I ignore them.

it can give it a funny sense of "this is what animation looks like in here"

It breaks immersion for me but I like how you get an insight into the author's interests in movies or tv shows lol

Not a huge deal, but I've always liked that as a game element.

Definitely weird, mostly because it looks so out of place. Only thing worse is probably when they show their Patreon/Fuck95 page in a browser.
OOOOOOH that yes yes. I forgot about that. I can't remember the last game I played to do that. But it does happen indeed.

Nah, to me it breaks a "wall" of the game and snaps the immersion.

It never matches the style of the game and so i agree it breaks the immersion. BUT - I do like when they put scenes from other devs games (or other games of their own) on TVs, posters, etc. It's like an Easter Egg.

I REALLY like cross-overs when done right, a great example of that is Sam from Sexbot (mmm, so yummy) appearing in Laura Lustful Secrets. Due to being different art styles he even recreated her in his games art style - well done!

It was kind of funny the first time I saw it, but at this point it's just become distracting with how much it stands out. Maybe if people stuck to animated things it wouldn't be so bad.

theres been a couple times ive noticed a movie or something that i like and thats pretty cool

Think it really depends on the style of game and how much of a focus the TV is? Background scenery, sure it can be anything, but if it's an interactive system then it feels really jarring to suddenly have a different visual style.
