VN over Sandbox every time. The few Sandbox games I do play, I play DESPITE that they are sandbox.

Note to mods: Me being an old fuck and computer illiterate, I have no clue if I've answered things like this before, and, hopefully, not in the same thread. Is it ok to answer the same question in a different thread? I'm obviously trying to get points but also trying to keep my replies significant as per your rules. I just don't want to cause trouble or to cause you work. Real example: I actually don't remember if I've asked this to mods before! Having old man brain sucks, btw!!!

What sandbox games do you prefer? I don't really have any that I like. I have plenty on my computer but that's because ill play just about anything that looks good.

Ataegina [Kthulian] (graphics dated)
Long Live the Princess [Belle] (graphics dated)
Love of Magic [Droid Productions] (animations suck)
Treasure of Nadia [NLT Media] personal best of the 4.

NOTE = Many of these either drop the Sandbox (Ataegina) or make it irrelevant later in game. Also, many are pseudo-kinetic.

Detailed Example = Love of Magic has a main storyline that 100% kinetic. You can't even lose fights during the main storyline (you get to below 1 Hit Point then heal up to half during a plot fight). BUT... the side quests are stats gated, have prerequisites that carry over between the 3 parts of the game, you CAN lose in those fights and it's DESIGNED that you can't do everything in a chapter in 1 playthrough. Also, although the dev is now making a new game, they are 1/3 of the way through a new game+ experience for Love of Magic.

I appreciate the recommendations. The only game I've played of the four is Treasure of Nadia and I actually did like the game for its story and art. I'll get to downloading the other three games immediately and trying them out thank you!

I prefer sandboxes with location shortcuts and activity logs otherwise VNs

Id rather play VNs rather than grindy sandboxes

Listen, I enjoy sandbox games, but they get waaaaaaaay too grindy sometimes.
So unless they have a walkthrough or a good in-game hint system, I'd rather play VNs.

VNs, I can't be arsed to do the sandbox stuff unless I can cheat.

It depends on the game. I prefer sandbox if I can really get into the story. Otherwise, VN is the way to go.

Sandboxs can get pretty grindy, but if there's enough content, it can be nice to just focus on what you want instead of having to go through a whole VN.

I prefer VNs but i'll play a sandbox if it's not a grindfest.

Man, I'm a sucker for a sandbox. I can't resist and usually end up spending way too much time grinding through them, earning money I can't use, levelling up stats that don't even matter. I can end up on day 200 when you're clearly not meant to go past like day 30. I really enjoy the concept, having all the locations and deciding what to do with your time etc. but ultimately the vast majority are too grindy and would work a lot better as VNs. I need to keep telling myself this and resist in future.

a while ago, if i answered this im tolding that i prefer sandbox, but today im more of VN

VN all the way

What made you change your mind?
i like to play and do the things on my way, the sensation that sandbox games gives us, but the majority are scripted and sometimes are broken. so now i prefer faster VN that bring us more than 1 path instead those bunch of linear sandbox

Most sanboxes are to grindy but then again some VN are just to straight. No matter the choises, you end up at the same place

I would like to like a sandbox game... But adult games are clearly better in a visual novel mode.

VN all the way, I got a steam account if I want to play a sandbox game.

VN tends to be better, but we well made sandbox can blow everything else out of the water. Just needs to have either clearly labeled mechanics or explained in a way that isn't too confusing
