discussion Unpopular opinion - I don't want to be warned about extreme fetishes, even if I don't like them

I'm certain most will think I'm crazy for this one, but I dislike when games have warnings such as "THIS SCENE CONTAINS [insert fetish], WOULD YOU LIKE TO SKIP?". I think they horrifically kill the pace of a game and scene when they show up. With that said, I can get behind most kinks, even if I'm not super into it. I've got no particular liking for feet, but games love to warn me about foot scenes when I would just rather hold ctrl or whatever than have my scene get broken up.

They also tend to ruin surprises a lot of the time. Sometimes it's exciting when something unexpected happens, and that itself can be a turn-on. I know things like NTR can get to some people, so I completely understand why most games prefer to have a huge warning slapped before the content, but for me personally I would like it to just keep going with the flow of the scene.

I can agree with that, it can be incredibly jarring to have a sudden warning in game. I would assume that the tags would be enough to let people know what's in the game buuuuut people can be dumb

With sufficient tags, warnings are overkill. If I am playing a game that is heavily into shit that I don't like and it's not labeled that way then I don't mind a heads up. Ideally warnings should be stated and given the option to skip or see at the start of the game.

I kind of agree. If they are going to have opt out options they should be at the beginning before you get started

I kinda agree. I'd add that in most games where you can avoid or go for fetish content via choices, the warning is largely redundant. You probably don't need a big flashing "WARNING NTR CONTENT" before a choice screen that says "Do I mind my girlfriend helping Chad Thundercock study Biology? Y/N".

Also I really don’t want to see someone shit in a cup ever again, so warnings are appreciated depending on the fetish.

Fully support this I feel the same way. If anything ask at the beginning of the game before I get into it. That being said I am also a completionism that doesn't want to miss anything lol.

I prefer when Devs let us control extreme content or even preferred content at the start. Find it works better all round this way.

It's not a huge deal when something I don't like pops up, but I'd rather just avoid some content that I know is just gonna kill my mojo baby. I do prefer toggles though so it just skips over the stuff without a prompt during the game though.

Yeah I'm the exact same here. If I'm playing a game, I go for every scene that the game has even if there are scenes with fetishes I don't care for. Like I said in the OP, feet don't really do anything for me but I'm not gonna skip a foot scene because "ew feet". I am pretty lax when it comes to fetishes though, so I really don't mind NTR and can even enjoy it if it's done well. I get why warnings are there for those who can't just zone out for a scene, but I do like to complain when the warning is there lol

Very true! another small personal gripe is RenPy having "skip new dialogue" off by default, so if I want to hold ctrl I have to fix the settings in literally. every. game.

I kinda understand your perspective, but personally I like getting warned especially if it's extreme kinks like scat, which is an immediate mood killer for me.

I get the point, but I think warnings are necessary. There are some things that just aren't fun to see. So the best way would be setting at the beginning of the game. "Are you OK with gore?" or some such. Then you can once and for all set, what content you want to skip, and the game flow isn't interrupted.

I see it as some others. Warnings and choice are necessary. Because some things just kill the mood or are plain disgusting. So a filter at the game start or in the game settings would be best.

I don't have anything against tags, in fact I very much appreciate them. I'm specifically talking about warnings that pop up right before a scene that break the flow of the game.
