Unpopular opinion - I don't want to be warned about extreme fetishes, even if I don't like them

people have a right to know what they are engaging with. and i think i prioritize that right over your right to be surprised. so just don't read the tags
I don't have anything against tags, in fact I very much appreciate them. I'm specifically talking about warnings that pop up right before a scene that break the flow of the game.

I agree and think they are unnecessary, if let's say a game has NTR as a tag and I don't like NTR, If I go into the game and get cucked, that's on me.

Is true that the warning can be bothersome, I remember some games that what it does is in the start of the game present you with the problematic fetishes that have (ex: trap, futa, NTR, etc...) and give you the opcion of desactive that scenes, that is a somewhat good way to do it.

im guessing devs dont want people complaining that their game has xyz content so they plaster the content warning inside it to warn those types of people

I agree with options at the beginning of the game. The only way that a warning mid game works is if the game already breaks the 4th wall.

On my current project I'm deliberately vague on the content, but in the VN I will try to give the MC the choice to avoid or engage in certain acts. I'm toying with the idea of compelling players to make choices they may not like by using the carrot method too. If it isn't fun in my demo play through, I'll nix them.

I kinda agree. It definitely kills the pace when putting them right before the scene. In my opinion the best way to do it it's too go through the game fetishes at the game start and let the player decide if they want to leave it on or off. If they already said yes you don't need to keep warning them every time, and if they said no it would never appear in the first place.

I can respect that opinion but I would like to knew before I play a game.

Content Warnings and options in general can be a good option for giving more control to players and reducing the chances of them bashing the game for having content they don't like. However having the warning/options immediately before the scene is not preferred (though with how most of these games are developed episodically, I can see a one-time warning before the first scene in a new type of content). Ideally though the options should be presented in the initial configuration that most of these games have - or have the opt-in/out be in the settings menu.

I don't think OPs opinion is unpopular per se. At least I don't mind it. I do agree that a good tagging system should inform before playing the game and would do so in a better manner. But I also don't particularly mind in game warnings either. I dislike forced censorship immensely but not being given the option to censor my own experience if I feel like it.

I disagree wholeheartedly and I actually don't think a tagging system is enough to replace it, because there will always be a lot of leeway within any given tag. For example take the tag Voyeurism. A game can have that tag simply because you spy on a girl who's flicking her bean. Or it's because the MC is glued watching another man and woman have sex.

The first example excites me, the second one disgusts me and makes me not want to play that game. And you could come up with a similar example for most tags. Ergo, tags aren't enough. And while tags are obviously still very useful, they can never be so exact that you get the full story of exactly what a game is about. This is why I appreciate warnings mid-game so much. It means the developer cares about the player and their experience.

Most of the time I dont read firt 5-10 pages of VN games. This is da way

I mostly agree. I’m not into trans or gay stuff, so I like warnings then

Yeah all of these responses I agree with. The warnings at the very start/in config are good. They let people who don't want to see some content turn that off. I can imagine that someone who hates NTR doesn't want to have to skip out on an amazing game just because of a handful of NTR scenes. The intro options are a good work-around. If all games had that, then the NTR option would already be off by the time an NTR scene would happen, so it can be auto-skipped and not ruin the flow of a scene or the gameplay. It is good for both people who want to skip or not skip, since either way no abrupt 4th wall break happens.
