VN Ren'Py VAM Uncanny [v0.8.0] [Goosenards]

Not sure, but I think something is messed up. I picked the Raven romance path option and she still goes nuts, and not only that, but main girl (I named her Riley) brings up kissing on the couch which doesn't happen on Raven's romance path that night. So is it a bug, like a variable being mislabeled or something? Even if Raven goes nuts either way (which would suck), if there wasn't a kiss it shouldn't get brought up, right? So something is off.

Riley(Cora) mentioning the couch scene even when you don't get it is a bug. It's on my list to fix for the next release, there's also another bug mentioning the ritual choice caused by a similar issue (my points/variable system needs some small tweaks). Raven goes nuts no matter what path you choose. The optional side girls are not true romance paths, but they aren't ' faux game over' paths either, they're just different scenes. The story will move forward whether you romance none, or any number of the side girls.

Once you know the secret it's super easy...

Don't play it like a typical AVN. Instead play it like you actually care about her and ONLY her.
That's how I got it to work. Also, looking forward to Thirty Seconds - it was love at first sight for me with those Jessica renders you posted!

Thanks for the answer. It would be nice then if you didn't call them romance paths, but what they are, one night stands. I'm going to put my additional thoughts in a spoiler, read if you like, and I hope you do, but it's up to you of course:

And I called it a semi-fail-state, or "faux game over," because you're not romancing them then, you're getting a one night stand and missing points and scenes with the only girl that matters and are being, for lack of a better term, railroaded into losing those other girls so why even bother?

I hate sex scenes just to have sex scenes that mean nothing, or worse are a wrong choice in the story and lead to bad ends. And if it's all false choices, especially since you say they are a "romance path," that implies more than a one night stand, I'd just as soon not have those choices at all since it isn't even real. Giving those choices and calling them romance paths makes it seems like they will matter beyond the impact they have on Riley. Maybe label the right choice "focus on [cora's name] romance path" and the wrong one, "lose points with [cora's name] but get a one night stand with this random chick you'll lose and never see again," so it is clear that this is the way the story is intended and will go no matter what choice we pick. (Edit: obviously you'd want to streamline those labels, lol)

Because I assumed that, since they were called romance paths that they would circle back and the girl would show up again possible. I, maybe foolishly, assumed that choices would matter or why bother having them. That maybe there was an outcome where you could have just a father/daughter relationship with Riley and could end up with one (or more) of the other ladies as mother for her and be a more normal (to some extent) family. Or maybe it would turn out that the magic stuff was more real than the Mc believes and there really was a greater force at work and it was kind of setting up him and Riley to meet these woman that also needed what Riley does, but never got it, but get it from him (a stable guardian/dad figure) and so that was were it was going. Or, especially with Jade, these other relationships would help him realize that he really wants Riley as more than a daughter and maybe one, or more, of the other ladies saying/doing things that make Riley see herself and him in a more sexual light than she seems to as time goes on so it all builds to them getting together with some (maybe not all) helping it along.

Or maybe, since Mc and Riley are on the move, they could end up at that store again, if you romance Amy. If you romance Raven then she sees the vision as her being meant to serve you as like a breeding live stock almost, a little crazy, but not dangerously so especially not out of no where if you pick her "romance" path since that is kind of the vibe she gives during the sex scene. But if you're basically forced to be with Riley and every other girls is just a poor excuse for sex scenes, then I can't help but wonder why bother with other chicks at all? Why not just tell the story of Mc and Riley on the move and have the other chicks be back ground characters?

And, also, them being "on the move" seems weird too. He's retired and she is nobody, just a nameless girl and outside of his home town where he might run into someone he knows, literally everyone would just assume he is her father if that's what he says because that's how a real father and a daughter travel. It's not like a father carries his daughter's paperwork around when they travel or his license says he's a single man with no kids. So why is he acting like he's on the run with people coming after him? I thought the idea was for them to travel a bit and find a place to settle down and start over, which is what, if I recall correctly, the Mc thoughts said in the first part. Go somewhere new, start over. Which is also why I assumed that the romance paths were actual romance paths, because we would be settling in that new area, meeting girls there and building the main relationship with Riley. But instead he's acting like they are running from the mob or other cops or something, giving fake names and paying with cash. No person they meet is going to know your name on your license doesn't match the one you gave them, outside of like a landlord or something, but you could give them your real name and just tell them, I go by [fake name], and they wouldn't really care. It just feels like the "stay on the move," is going to be used as an excuse for why none of the other ladies, and none of the other choices, matter. So, again, why have them?

Anyway, that's all I've got really. Sorry it's a bit rambling, but I really liked the concept and Riley and Jade too. While I'm willing to take some of the blame (for lack of a better term) for my expectation and assumptions I find it hard to take all of it. Because I based those assumptions and expectations on the clues and story you presented in the game. For example; calling it "Jade Romance Path," Jade and Riley being so similar and getting so close so quickly, the concept being presented that they were just looking for a new place to settle down so they weren't going to be on the run like a pair of fugitives, him referencing and using his connections meaning he hasn't even left his past fully behind like someone actually on the run, the pseudo-magic stuff going on maybe hinting at something more going on, and even a few other things.

So, all that said, if this really is a solo-girl game, with a forced solo-girl but a bunch of other chicks in the way with false choices, then I'm not sure I'll be sticking around for this one update-to-update anymore. Might come back when it is done. I wish you the best and success, but I'm not a fan of games like that (Edit: pseudo-harem games where every girls around wants to bang Mc but if he does it then bad things happen of we miss the main point of the story, just make a solo-girl game if that's what you want it to be) if that is where the game is going.

EDIT: If I'm making another wrong assumption here, and it is real romances that we will get to revisit and have more content with and possible get more out of then fair enough. I'd be willing to be corrected.

My long winded post above aside, I'll give a bit of a final TLDR here: I can own up to my own expectations and assumptions being wrong, but I did base those expectations and assumptions on what was presented in game, not least of which is calling the choice with other girls "romance paths."

I'll try and answer some of your thoughts but spoilers ahead:

Although the destination is the same, the journey can be different, that's really the point. I wouldn't call them false choices, as they do have h-scenes with the side LIs, and participating in them does alter the timeline of your relationship with Cora over the course of the story, but I admit the 'romance' term might be a misnomer, that might be worth revising.

And, also, them being "on the move" seems weird too. It's because of his background that he's hesitant to leave any breadcrumbs. He knows firsthand that if someone were to look into him/Cora, that any trail left behind is too much of a trail, a little paranoid maybe. But I wouldn't say it's out of character for someone who spent a couple decades as a cop who's technically committing a potential serious crime. And some of that gets resolved in the next couple chapters, it's a plot device that has a purpose.

In short, banging the side LIs does result in some missed content with the main girl, but in essentially only delays the relationship through the story. The main plot line happens either way, you can just go all in on the main girl and open that relationship a little earlier, that plays more into romance and sweetness. Or have a little variety along the way and still move forward with the main girl with the path being a feeling bit more muddled and uncertain. And while the side LIs won't actually change the outcome of the story, some might make a reappearance in a later chapter under certain circumstances.

Look good, cute girl, hope game no short
agreed i like the girl but I wish there was a little less dialogue. It feels like they really ramble a lot, I'd hope for a better balance. I do like the focus on one girl but the side chicks seem to take a almost all of the ero scenes :(

As a person who is perfectly fine with my Autistic identity, I'm not sure a 'Big fan' should be running around applying labels like that. Either you don't know her or your saying shit that isn't your place to say.
As you and me basically have the same answer to prior posts, I sincerely apologize to you. It was NOT my intent to make neurodivergent a bad thing. The complete opposite. Trust me @elfieeven . I was abit tired and meant that I really enjoy Goosenards way of writing Cora.

Its a little bit disappointing that secondary girls get left in the dust. I quite liked Raven. I think I see what the dev is going for, and it can work for the story. But as a game - especially one where content is limited by the devs time - I do have to question if its the best approach.

(Although, heck, maybe clean breaks will save you time in the long run due to not having to worry about branching paths.)

Still, you're doing a fantastic job and this is one of the very few games I check with each update.

I've tried getting into this game, but the girl, cute has her appearance may be, annoys the hell out of me. :(

For me it's the opposite. Having that type of girl is a very good balance to grumpy-cop. He would be boring, she would be unstable, together they are strawberry milk.

Question for the dev about the plot (so far I literally just started playing ) why couldn't the MC do both. It wouldn't be hard to report the girl and adopt her through the system

You got to add a bit of suspension of disbelief to it. > Why didn't they kill Voldemord with a sniper rifle? Because then there is no plot. They had to be stupid and stick to magic.

imo, it is not about matching reality, it is about explain the plot itself. If later on the plot do explain that Cora's ritual have such magic on their first encounter that it can explain itself. but for now, it is a plot hole to yet to be fill.

I do have faith the dev will fill it same way later on, because the dev seem to realize the importance to do so; in previous Rational Chaos, there is a weird hole that the MC is just a stay home do nothing guy who just happen to pay everything and a burned house. At least, the dev try to go with retired police to explain the financial stage of MC here, which is a improvement.

Still, I dont think a cop retired in late 30 to early 40 can live on, I feel like it is more of a gap year than real retirement.
Or soon the MC and Cora are soon going to rely on magic for food, unless the MC was a dirty cop with a secrete bank account

I'm gonna have to hit you with the, who cares it's a porn game.
As long as the scenes are good and the story is not purely nonsensical, I could care less how a retired cop has money.

Why didn't they kill Voldemord with a sniper rifle?
ChatKGB response:
"Because the Harry Potter universe doesn’t run on "Call of Duty" logic — firearms aren’t part of wizarding culture, and Voldemort could deflect or dodge bullets with magic the moment he sensed danger.
Also, the story’s drama works a lot better with wands than with Winchester rifles."
