I usual go by a directors filmography and then i rate a bunch of their movies like John McTiernan, he directed The Hunt for Red October and Die Hard, and also The Predator. But then he also directed the execrable Last Action Hero, but he also directed the very good remake of the Thomas Crown Affair.

Blade Runner is an iconic film, and Blade Runner 2049 might be the most visually stunning film i've ever seen.

District 9 was so good i had high hopes for Blomkamp but then he made Elysium and Chappie. And they cancelled his Alien 5. Demonic also was widely panned and Gran Turismo flopped.
