Yep. Just to clarify, I didn't mean to imply he's doing it maliciously by intentionally slowing down the pace of progress (although it's possible). I don't follow the development of SS closely, so if the communication to his backers is fairly transparent and timely, I have no problems with it. Time will tell.

Hard to complain about free, but with that kind of money coming in, I expect at least 1 person to be working fulltime on this, and that person's productivity is ... abysmal.

Someone finally posted an incest patch for the new v21.0.0 version so I decided to give it a try. Needless to say, there's not a whole helluva lot there yet, You have the initial Mom and Sis interactions and the first day of school. It's really frustrating to not have any content with the teachers and students. He gives you complete stats and $10,000, so you can't go to the gym but you can still buy stuff but you can't really do anything with it. There are a bunch of new locations you can check out but nothing to do there.
Teacher content and minigames are supposed to be updated at the end of July. We'll just have to wait and see if that happens. IMO, it's really not worth playing until DarkCookie restores more content.
Potentential Major Issue ALERT: They changed Summerville High to Summerville College! This seemingly small change can severely affect the continuity of the plot lines. Principal Smith is still showing up as a Principal instead of a Headmaster or President of the school and an entirely different power structure of what she can get away with. It also changes the nature of the quest to find a date for the Senior Prom just to name 2. It would be a lot simpler if DC changed it back to Summerville High, otherwise most of the storyline structure will have to be rewritten, (which means more delays in any updates).

Assuming all the old content was updated to this new tech (and ignoring the long time it took), was it worth it in your opinion?
What are the actual improvements you noted (aside from the better resolution)?
And if you know, do they still use renpy, or did they switch to some other engine?

Can't really tell at this point, . . . Wait another couple weeks to see if we actually get the scheduled update and more content. I get the feeling that with all of the potential plot conflicts, you're going to have to restart the game from scratch with each update, (again)

Yeah the only real improvement as of now is the resolution, which was not worth the long wait at all in my opinion.
They said that with the increased resolution it would allow them to make the map bigger, as if they couldn't just add an arrow to a second map...
I know you asked if it was worth it "ignoring the long time it took" but A LOT of content could have been added in the time it took them to rebuild the game, and now we have less content than 2 YEARS AGO

Yeah, I get that the "wait for more content" point, which is why was specifically asking something along the lines of "if one was to ignore all the missing content and the time it took them...".
I was hoping for things like:
- more stable save game compatibility (don't really remember how SS was in this regard, but I know many renpy games struggle with this)
- better / smoother animations (e.g. more FPS)
- better UI
- quest manager or at least quest listing, possibly with hints
- character portraits
- smaller download sizes (e.g. better compression or updates as patch files instead of downloading the whole game each time)
- ...
If "bigger map" was one of the main justifications for this, that indeed sounds disappointing.

I just saw that Cameo is failing and falling apart. Makes me hope for a swing and the "Patreon" bubble will pop when the world gets fed up and stops supporting people just to support them. The whole concept is just whack. This can't last for too much longer... can it? Been like, what, 7yrs now?

I'm not familiar with it. Do you mean "cameo.com"? If so, from just briefly looking at it, that concept seems a lot more "fad"-y to me.
For patreon and similar platforms on the other hand I can understand the long-term benefit of supporting smaller creators (or individuals) who can make a living or additional income from a smaller audience than a established company or publisher.
The problem comes when those creators intentionally stall progress (often making false promises) and leech the patrons. Whether DC belongs in that category remains to be seen.

The longest parts are currently in the work - about Roxy, Mia and Eve.
