I hate sandbox with few exceptions; I automatically avoid that game. and if a game has sandbox content and it's not advertised it's an instant delete.

I like visual novel with choices. I also despise Kinetic novels.

9 times out of 10 I prefer the visual style of the sand box where you just click on arrows or pictures to move around vs the RPG running around. If I like the game it's not a deal breaker but the RPG style feels more like busy work, expanding game time by increasing travel time rather than through gameplay.

For porn games KN is the best genre. It allows one handed playing and ensures that I don't miss content.

For non-porn games, RPG is my choice. Unless it's too grindy.

Sandbox isn't my thing at all, since it tends to be even more grindy than the worst RPGs.

I actually like either one as long as there is not much grind, or at the very least it feels like im actually progressing during the grind, and its easy to move around. Either genre having both qualities is unfortunately unicorn rare though.

Sandbox is an absolute chore unless it's well-done. The most tolerable one I can remember was that Slay the Spire-inspired porn game and even that one got tedious sometimes.

Don't suppose you remember the name of that one?

Both depends on my mood and how much attention I want to or have time to pay to the game.

Sandbox all day every day

RPG's are fun for the most part. Sandboxes not so much. Whenever a VN suddenly becomes a sandbox, the likelihood of me continuing it drops considerably. But I occasionally get sucked into a RPG game, because it's actually a game. Instead of wandering around mindlessly trying to figure out where you're supposed to go in a sandbox.

If a sandbox game can inform me if it's going somewhere, I'll try it. If I have no clue if I'm making some kind of progress or accomplishing missions, I'm out. The absolute worst thing is playing demo games and not knowing if I've reached the end of the update and now just going around in circles. For me, that's what happens too much in sandbox games.

I don't mind either as long as the system to progress isn't something that relies on the user to memorize where to go next.

It depends on various factors, such as art or content. Or even how the rpg mechanic is used if that is the type of game.

Sandboxes for porn games are usually poorly thought out and full of bugs / broken sequencing.
I don't have an issue with RPG porn games, in fact I would say they're towards the top of my preferences - though finding the time to play them is another issue entirely.
