What makes you despise it so much?
Because making them takes a lot of trials and errors.

For example. You make the scenes, each into short stories before another story for each character. So, you set up text buttons to see if it works. Then you have to figure out the best way to make the UI to work with the theme. By the time you're done, you're already waaaaay pass 100 lines of code. And that's not the only thing one needs to create. You would need to create a character screen that tells you when they are available. Altogether, just for a few short scenes, you're already over 1000 lines of code. Hell, sometimes 2000 lines if you include characters names and other information you want players to know about.

When you add a bunch of code that's not just dialogues, you can easily get lost and even forget where you put what at.

I respect the Devs that can pull this off without tearing their own head off. That shit takes determination.

Thanks for the explanation, I gained a few extra lvls of respect for the devs.

Both are implemented as mostly horrible grind fests. But i think at least an effort to do an RPG is good. The sandboxes don't even try to tell a story.

It's about respect for players time I think. Nothing wrong with sandbox if it is done well and the grind is kept to a minimum.

The problem is when it's completely unintuitive and you're spending hours just hoping you click on the right thing and the right time to get content, or if you have to repeat the same thing 10+ times to progress any story.

Sandbox are always so grindy. I hate grind. I want a 20-30 minute experience with some release. Pick up the rest of the story later, rinse and repeat.

both are good in my opinion, though i'm probably leaning towards rpg than sandbox

Both can be good depending on dev really, just need to make sure to not have grind on it, specially unrewarded grind like the sandbox grind of "going to work" where to make the same 5-6 clicks repeatedly per game day without seeing any NSFW along the way.

Still lean towards RPG though, just because i played hundreds before and format is comfy

I'd rather have Sandbox than dealing with RPGM.

I know these two type of games are the most hated in Porn Games World.
But why is that?
Personally I like to have a challenge but classic RPGs are definitely not user friendly... I think it's mainly due to the fact that it takes forever to go from one place to the next... Like in Peasant's Quest (I've never finished that game just because of that)

But NLT games doesn't have this problem as it's really good in the story and visual departments

But sandbox games in general (like Milfy City) have always been very much enjoyable.

Thoughts?

What games are these screenshots from?

A good RPG (even made in RPGMaker) has fast travel options that are easy to access, and sends you to the next logical destination when you complete a quest. There are a lot of bad RPG Maker games. There are also a lot of bad VNs.

It's so hard to say. I rarely give RPG a try because I feel the gameplay can become so disconnected to the graphics. I have tried some of the popular one like Lust Epidemic and that was good but I didn't love it. I did like Karryn Prison a lot though! I think it's mainly because it was pretty innovative and different. I felt pretty immersed in the story/gameplay even as a guy.

Sandboxes are hit and misses too, mostly misses. I like power vacuum though I lost my file and I can't get back into it (one big con of sandbox games). Most sandboxes are needlessly grindy just to prolong game play and I think that's not respecting the players time.

In general I prefer sandbox games, with some exceptions of RPG games.

RPGs and sandbox games each offer unique experiences, and which one you prefer often depends on your playstyle:

  • RPGs focus on storytelling, character development, and choices that impact the world. They’re great if you enjoy immersive narratives, leveling up, and forging connections with characters. Games like The Witcher 3 and Mass Effect shine in this category.
  • Sandbox games emphasize freedom and creativity, letting you shape the world and your experience. Whether it’s building, exploring, or creating your own story, games like Minecraft or Grand Theft Auto V excel in letting you do things your way.

RPGs and sandbox games both offer distinct gaming experiences, but they cater to different preferences. RPGs, or role-playing games, often focus on story-driven experiences where players assume the role of a character or group of characters, making decisions that influence the narrative and character development. The core of RPGs lies in deep storytelling, character progression, and quests that drive the plot forward. Games like The Witcher 3 and Final Fantasy are great examples of RPGs where the narrative and character growth are key elements.

On the other hand, sandbox games emphasize freedom and creativity. Players are given an open world or environment where they can explore, build, or create without the constraints of a structured narrative. Sandbox games often allow players to shape the world, complete tasks at their own pace, and engage with the environment in open-ended ways. Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V are examples of sandbox games where players have the autonomy to interact with the world in various ways, outside of any rigid storylines.

I like sandbox, but there must be good RPGs.

I much prefer sandboxes.
In fact, I always avoid the RPG tag.

I avoid both. "Fantasy" and "sandbox" are both tags I filter out.

I like rpgs if they are done well but i almost always gravitate more towards sandbox games. Just feels like the game lasts longer and is more involved if done well.
