grind is bad, classic VN is best option, sandbox is ... acceptable

Grind is tolerable, locking yourself out of paths due to some early choises is the worst

It's hard to implement both of them right. Sandbox tend to have too much grind or the grind is boring. While RPG have problems knowing what to do next or you miss out on content if you do something out of order.

For example I really like some parts of World after War. You farm material, research and build your base (water system, power, etc) and you have the freedom to do things in whatever order you choose. The game have some grindy parts to it where you have to interact with the girls so they like you more. This includes things like watching a movie with one of the girls or being at a certain location when they have free time and this gets repetitive fast. So because one aspect of the game is grindy it makes it a lot less likely that I replay or start game over when a new version comes out. That said there are some games that are almost flawless like Space Journey X (imho).

With RPG I almost always get stuck because there isn't a quest log or the quest log isn't detailed enough. There is also a problem where you might miss out on content because you did something in the wrong order or missed doing something. So I feel the need to follow a walkthrough just so I don't miss anything and that defeats the whole purpose of an RPG. I also don't like to replay a game with slightly different choices over and over again to see all the content (if you don't use a walkthrough).

So I prefer sandbox over RPG by a huge margin.

if the grind isn't terrible and the art is good, I love sandbox games. RPG's are harder for me to get into in general and I can't pin down the exact reason

I like rgpmaker games when the typic rpg mechanics (particularly turn-based combat and leveling) are minimal to non-existent.
Sandbox is usually good with me although I get it when you've got the sandbox-style navigation but can really only progress in a linear path, thus defeating the purpose of being able to wander around and making everything more tedious.

i still have yet to see a good rpg sandbox adult game. its gotta be doable. i personally dont mind either one.

sandbox games too often dont have a good enough hint system ingame to figure out what to do next without a guide

I only like sandbox games if they give you hints. Nothing is worse than having to keep skipping time at different locations to figure out how to progress the game

VN is better, but there are some sandbox games that I like so I choose the sandbox

VN, Rpg, sanbox, all 3 suit me provided that the sandbox is well constructed and that it doesn't take 10 hours for 1 scene I don't like grind just for grind

RPGs are too slow for my taste, the real content and progression get spread too thin, the only one that I can play are the ones that put nsfw content on the battles, and absolutely not the ones that I have to lose to see it, those are the worst.

I like the sandbox games. Feels more like a game than a vn. But it is also really dependent on the game and how well it is constructed.

Both have their place, If developer has good design practices, both are fine.

Preferably is neither.

Sandbox for me. I just feel like If I wanna play an Adult game I just wanted a simple VN with scene renders/drawings. No hate to anyone who enjoys RPGs and the devs that work hard on them either. Just not my cup of tea... hmmm maybe one day I'll try one and see though.

Y'all are probably gonna think me as "weird as shit" or something. Lmao.

I enjoy playing both Sandbox style and RPG style (minus RPGMaker nowadays)

HOWEVER....

I despise MAKING sandbox style with every fiber of my being...

What makes you despise it so much?
