It's a pity that you don't remember the name of the game(

Horror done well in videogames at all is quite difficult already unless you just mean the aesthetic of it, but I feel like horror and eroge don't mix well.
Maybe my view is too narrow but when horror is effective I wouldn't think you'd be in the right mindset for the other part.

Overall, you’re right, although for me, a horror movie isn’t about guts and a sea of blood; it’s more about a terrifying atmosphere. But there’s also a kind of safe zone, an island where you can feel safe.

Yeah I would agree with you, which is why it's so difficult in games. To be terrified you kind of need permadeath, otherwise once you die you realize you're immortal and the threat isn't real.
I guess a safe room would work as a moment of reprieve for the eroge part, didn't think of that.

I always thought the Blackheart games were darker, with some gore rather than horror, except for the first hotel one, which was definitely horror.

I agree, even though I haven’t played all the games in the Blackheart series, but there’s clearly blood in them, and sometimes there’s too much of it — and that’s not always a good thing.

to be honest... for people New to these games, i don't recommend the Blackheart series. because they are kind of derailed and bit of gore. it does have its charmes ( if you play in "order") but just know these aren't for the "softer" genre people
