Remember also that places like patreon and others, plus payment processors, started changing their ToS and taking down a lot of adult games, especially if they had certain taboos (like incest and rape). It was probably due to the explosion of games that caused them to take notice.

from what I've read over on Fuck95 he's taken a step back after losing some donor sites cause of the content he makes.

Game quality in my opinion peaked before and during the pandemic. Probably had a lot more time on their hands. Now it seems like we wait months for an update that adds a few hundred words and a CG or two. Taht along with ai becoming more prevalent in games made people just churn out slop for a quick buck. More then likley discourage those who put in time just to be less popiular then AI incest game #56.
So basically just be prepared for the abandoned tag anytime soon

Has any one else noticed this sort of "recession" when it comes to porn games?

I would say that the quality of game development/speed started sometime before 2017, with games such as Summer Time Saga, Milfy City, DILF, Dreams of Desire, and much much more spawning into the scene for our dicks' enjoyment.
But I feel that ever since the summer of 2023, the development/progress of porn games has dropped significantly. I understand that there are still games being made/develop, but they all lack in quality, have a huge 'Time to Update' (ToU), or just straight-up been abandoned.

Am I just being spoiled, or does anyone else feel this?
You are not the only one. Most of the games I follow are either stuck in remake hell or they take at the very least 6 months to update. And the few that still get updated often release like 10 min of content. There is also a huge wave of A.I bullshit coming out now

Yeah definitely noticed this, a real shame

no, I think you're spot on. I've noticed that as well. It's a combination of a few things I think. First, you can actually make money off games now. If you can build a game that draws enough attention you only need to make consistent and large enough updates every month or so to keep people engaged and paying you a monthly fee a la patreon, subscribestar etc. Secondly, the level of games out there now is so high that there just arent that many people who have the skill to make a top level game who aren't trying to actually profit off it. That's my take anyways. We have way more options than we used to, but theres just a flood of startups and so-so games trying to make some money.

Its a combination of things.

First of all, there are loads of mainstream erotic games available on 'normie' platforms. However they are all sanitized due to the fact they are on said platforms.
As such, to get the less sanitized games that people actually crave you end up having to look at the 'indie' developers.

These 'indie' developers, be it a small team or individuals, used to be able to monetize without much issue ....thats no longer the case. In the last few years they have been hammered on by the platforms due to payment processor pressure.

Now, with no means to monetize, many indie devs have simply given up, as they are not being compensated for their time, or making any profit.
As such your left with those who do it only for passion, which are few, and as they hold other jobs, their development is slow.

We wont see an uptick in new game development, especially high quality ones, until a reliable secure means of monetizing them is found.

I mean yeah there's a lot of slop, but I also feel like lately there's been a lot of nicer games coming out
