Holiday specials are almost always completely disconnected from the larger story of a game and mostly exist so the dev can continue to milk monthly donations on Patreon.
The games we play to disconnect from reality should have their own realities and stories. They should feel like they take place in a parallel universe. For example, in that universe, holidays and festivals may be celebrated on different dates. They may even have different names and rituals. I am also against the fact that these games we play to get away from reality insist that this is the reality and you can never escape from it. I want a reality where xxxxxx holiday is celebrated on January 1 instead of New Year's Eve, or let's celebrate February 1 instead of January 1 in the game. What difference does it make. We already experience the same things in real life.
