Daddy for some games or a random name I don't self insert.

I always name my male MCs Alex and female ones Alice/Anna, same way as I name every farm in farm games Moon (since Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town).
PS: I do think self inserting is weird

I do like naming characters, but I usually just rename the MC unless the other characters have names that are waaay to outlandish to match my character's (assuming it is an incest game).

True, I forgot to mention that, like sometimes you are playing a game where everyone has a Japanese name, and you cannot just go naming your character John, you need to fit in the theme.

But yea self naming the MC seems weird to me.

Save naming the MC (with always the same alter ego name) is essential for me to feel like being the MC and not being a voyeur.

I keep it as the default, or just make up something (like MC or Protagonist) if there is no default.
I cannot really handle a bastard of a character doing whatever twisted things the author makes it do while using my name. It just feels weird and wrong.
Even if the character isn't so bad, it's not me. It doesn't do things the way I'd have done them. It doesn't respond like I would.
As I am only an observer of a character's life, it just seems weird to pretend in any way that the character has anything to do with myself.

If it's a male character I usually go with Jacob... I have no idea why, it's not my name, I've never had any relatives, or close friends by that name, I just started it WAY back in the 90s and have stuck with it since then. If it's a female character, it varies.. I usually actually go with the default name for the ladies except for very rare occasions.

Depends on the mood. I might wanna go with a random name, where I wanna play like a different role than what I'm used to. but then my name if I wanna play closer to a self-insert. surname i just keep as default.

Usually self insert. When you can't rename the MC, the game sucks.

Not my real name but my nickname if the MC is a guy, and for women there are a couple that depend on the character.

Used to use a made up fantasy name for all games, but that doesn't really fit in the normal setting of most h-games. At some point I started using my real name and I stuck with it. Only when I can also give a last name is it a bit weird to use my real one, for some reason.
If there is only 1 LI to be renamed I used to rename her to a girl I liked a while back, just because I thought she had a nice name
