Personally, I don't get too exited about mother incest, probably because I didn't get an incest fetish till I was in my 30's. Old enough to not feel the younger perspective so strongly. It's still hot like any incest, just doesn't rev my engine as much as brother-sister or father-daughter does. Mother-daughter has the added bonus of lesbians, so I do love that one.

There's a lot of discussion above on why the line is different for fantasy and real life. Fantasy is fantasy, and I don't see anything wrong with it so long as it stays fantasy. I think real-life incest should be considered wrong not because it's inherently evil, but because the potential for abuse is too damn high. If people could all be actually trusted to not take advantage of others, I feel like such taboos would no longer be needed. Too bad it's impossible for the general population to be that trustworthy.

I've seen some people online claiming they were IRL the younger family member in an incestuous relationship and looking back when much older, they don't at all feel taken advantage of. In those cases, I'm really not morally bothered by it (assuming it's even real). In cases where they later do feel they were taken advantage of, I do feel morally disgusted. It's not something people talk openly about so we can't accurately know how common either is and you can't know how people will feel when older, so it's definitely best to be safe and just keep the whole mess taboo.

Option 3: If we were strictly talking about porn. It being taboo is 99% of the reason why it's so hot. I hate stories that neuter the fetish by normalizing it. Like all those stupid doujinshi plots from Japan where incest is sanctioned, encouraged or enforced by the government cuz "mah declining birthrates".

TBH I don't see the problem with 2 consenting adults doing they're business, I do see the reason why people are opposed to it but i think this all comes down to personal preference. mother's and son's can actually carry the species forward while all this LGBTQ+ bs would end it. in my opinion it is clear which is the more damaging for our species. that's just my 2 cents on the matter.

Taboo ≠ Illegality
Should it be a taboo? Yes, this is nothing that should be normalized.
Should it be illegal? Yes, but mostly because it's better that way. Anyone can claim that something like this is consensual and mutual, but the mere fact that it involves family power dynamics makes it questionable.

If it would be about siblings...
Taboo, yes.
Illegal... Siblings are usual close enought in age and development to be on the same level and if it's consensual and mutual... why not, let them as long as they don't make babies.

IRL the power dynamic part is the problem so yes i agree completely.

Truth be told, I have never had any such feelings towards my own mother. Aunts, and cousins certainly, but never my mother. Because of this I'm not sure I have the right or understanding to judge someone else who does have these sorts of feelings. The only real reason I can see for this sort of behavior being considered inappropriate is the lack of genetic diversity that it causes in children, but there are numerous ways to have intercourse and not impregnate a partner. Because of this I would have to argue that it should not be seen as inappropriate for any consenting individuals to have sexual interactions.

As for the obsession with this sort of content in porn and in games, it is largely because of the taboo nature of the idea that it creates so much excitement. I myself find incest in stories and games extremely arousing, though for me it is more of the sister or cousin variety I am drawn to. MILF has never really been my go to genre of porn, though older women with younger partners can be stimulating under the right conditions.

In reality, absolutely NOT. Large risks, and potentially sexual life destroyer. In fiction and games I see why some people like it, but if someone watches that for too much it can go to actually trying to do it in real life, with whatever consunquences. Personally i'm that to mentally aberrated.
